Virginia will not require elected school boards

A proposal that could have led to fewer appointed school boards in Virginia by allowing voters to decide by referendum if their local board should be elected died in the Senate during the most recent session of the Virginia General Assembly. Senators killed House Bill 1574 with an 11-27 vote.

School officials say recent Montgomery County tax vote 'out of spite,' 'foolish'

CHRISTIANSBURG - Several school board members, as well as the superintendent, took aim Tuesday at the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors' decision last week to further reduce a school funding request.
