Virginia earns top federal special education rating for 11th consecutive year

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - Virginia has earned the top federal rating for special education for the 11th year in a row. The rating is based on the federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act report card scores which look at a state's "participation and performance of students with disabilities on state and national reading and mathematics tests and on the success of states in improving graduation rates for special education students."

Early SOL results show most Warren County schools conditionally accredited

Early Standards of Learning test results show most Warren County public schools would receive accreditation, although some are accredited with conditions. The School Board received preliminary test results at its meeting Wednesday. Denise Walton, testing coordinator for the school system, presented the SOL test results for the year that ended June 30.

Va. health department launches program to detect lead in water of schools, day care centers | WTOP News

The Virginia Department of Health has launched a free program to help find lead in the drinking water of public schools and day care centers. Public schools and centers have to sign up online, and will hear back from the health department if they are selected.

Hampton City Schools offering $5K sign-on bonus for new teachers

HAMPTON, Va. - Interested in teaching? Hampton City Schools is offering a $5,000 sign-on bonus (after taxes) for specific new teachers hired between July 8, 2022 and August 29, 2022. Plans for new Chesterfield schools in the works as average capacity reaches 93%

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) - More students are filling up Chesterfield County Public Schools and the school board is making some changes to handle the increasing capacity. The district is planning to renovate some schools and bring at least four new school buildings to the area.
