Parents of students with disabilities sue Youngkin in federal court over masks-optional order

A group of parents of students with disabilities filed a lawsuit in federal court Tuesday against Gov. Glenn Youngkin, alleging his executive order allowing masks to be optional for schoolchildren violates the Americans With Disabilities Act and other federal law. This is the third lawsuit filed against Youngkin and state officials since he issued the executive order on Jan.

Fredericksburg school division to apply for funding to purchase 10 electric buses

Fredericksburg City Public Schools will apply to the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality for $3 million in funding to offset the cost of purchasing 10 electric school buses. The School Board last week approved a resolution permitting finance director Jennifer Brody to apply to the DEQ's Clean School Bus program, which exists to accelerate the replacement of diesel school bus fleets in the state.

Williamsburg, James City County School Board considers $1.5M in staffing hires, health care coverage for budget

The Williamsburg-James City County School Board continued budget discussions at its Tuesday night work session proposing an additional position and a potential shift in health care costs. Superintendent Olwen Herron, in collaboration with the division's finance department, made a request to include an additional $100,000 to $110,000 expenditure in order to hire a full-time data analyst and research evaluation coordinator.

Virginia Education Broadband Grant

Valued up to $30,000- Applications must be received by February 18, 2022

In honor of VSBA’s 115th Anniversary, a thank you for your work as school board members, and in service to Virginia’s children: Kajeet partnered with VSBA to announce the first-ever Virginia Education Broadband Grant program. This funding opportunity will help school board members continue the important work being done to ensure all students have digital learning access at school and at home.


In total, Kajeet will award over $250,000 in broadband services to Virginia school

boards to solve the digital divide and ensure that all students have access to learn, anytime, anywhere.
