Henrico County Public Schools 95% staffed with 175 instructional vacancies

With the first day of classes approaching for Henrico County Public Schools students, 95% of instructional positions are staffed with 175 vacancies, according to school officials. Henrico Superintendent Amy Cashwell announced at Thursday's school board work session that every class will be covered by a qualified adult Monday - whether that's a permanent substitute teacher, daily substitute or temporary reassignment.

Rocktown High School construction progressing on schedule

Back in January 2020, ground was broken on the new Rocktown High School in Harrisonburg. The construction was put on hold for 15 months during the pandemic before resuming last June. Over a year later major progress has been made and the school is on track to open in the fall of 2024.

Virginia NAACP leading effort to have elected school boards

The state NAACP chapter will lead an effort to transition some appointed school boards in Virginia to elected ones - starting with Hanover's. Robert Barnette, president of the Virginia NAACP, announced the "Why We Can't Wait" campaign at a press conference in Hanover County on Wednesday.

Carroll's first student school board | Carroll News

Two local students were recognized at the Carroll County Public School Board's August 9 meeting as the first student school board members. CCHS Seniors Jessica Bowman and Ashlee Vaughn were formally recognized by the board at the start of the meeting. Bowman is a Carroll County High School senior.

Arlington school system ramps up hotline as start of school approaches

Acknowledging that the personal touch sometimes trumps high tech, Arlington school officials are encouraging parents to pick up the phone and reach out if they have questions that they can't get answered. The Arlington Public Schools' family-information line is operational at (703) 228-8000 as the start to school approaches.

Revamped Salem High School is nearly complete

When students return to Salem High School on Monday, they will be in a more relaxed and secure environment, according to school officials. The school is in the final stages of a multi-year, renovation which was geared towards making the school built in 1977 more conducive to what is needed for learning in 2022, according to Principal Scott Habeeb.
