Hanover School Board to introduce proposed transgender policy

The Hanover County School Board on Tuesday is expected to introduce and discuss a new proposed policy regarding the treatment of transgender students. The proposed policy would require transgender students, along with their parents or guardians, to submit a written request asking for access to restrooms, locker rooms or changing facilities that align with the students' gender identities.

Virginia Beach schools to remove some library books, keep others after complaints

VIRGINIA BEACH - Virginia Beach Public Schools will remove some titles from library shelves after citizens complained that they were inappropriate for children. Other titles will remain after committee review. "Lucky" by Alice Sebold and "Triangles" by Ellen Hopkins will be taken out.

Spotsylvania has 114 vacant teaching positions with school starting next week

One week before the start of the 2022-23 school year, Spotsylvania County Public Schools has 114 vacant teaching positions, down from 162 a month ago. Interim Superintendent Kelly Guempel provided the School Board with a staffing update at a special meeting Aug. 3-the third special meeting called in as many weeks to approve personnel packages.

Virginia committing $1B to K-12 school construction

Gov. Glenn Youngkin participated in the official grand opening and ribbon cutting of the Mecklenburg County Middle School and High School on Friday, and used the occasion to ceremonially sign legislation providing more than $1 billion in school construction funds for K-12 public education.

Henrico Public Schools appoints former VDOE official as chief of staff

Henrico County Public Schools' new chief of staff is a former Virginia Department of Education official. Holly Coy will be officially appointed at the Henrico School Board's meeting next week. Coy served as assistant superintendent of policy, equity and communications at the VDOE from May 2020 to March of this year.

County School Board To Receive Legal Review On Name Change Policy
