Gov. Northam launches, 'Thank You, Virginia' tour

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - Gov. Northam will be launching his, 'Thank You, Virginia' tour today. Gov. Northam will propose a two-year state budget next week that includes record funding for public education, including a 10 percent pay raise for teachers. "Paying teachers is the right thing to do, and a wise investment," Governor Northam said.

Waynesboro High School alumni donate over $6,000 to girls basketball program

When Skylar Napier took over the helm of the Waynesboro girls basketball program in 2020, she noticed the team funds for equipment were low. A group of alumni and other local organizations decided to help try to change that. The Waynesboro High School classes of 1970 and 1971 held a silent auction at their joint reunion in October.

Greene Co. Schools open student community closet

Starting in January, the FCCLA team will be hosting a hygiene product drive, collecting supplies from first-block classrooms and rewarding the class that collects the most products with treats such as breakfast trays and drinks. "They have been building a plan-collecting boxes, making advertisements and coming up with ways to put it on our class Instagram account," Gozzard said.

Over 1,000 COVID Outbreaks in Virginia Schools: How One Division Handles the Pandemic - Dogwood

According to agenda documents, the district is once again looking to hire a manager for the construction project, but a director has been hired.

Unruly behavior during King William School Board meetings leads to 2 attendees being banned from school property

Many of Virginia's school board meetings have become more fractious in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Ongoing tensions at King William County Public School Board meetings over wearing masks have resulted in no trespassing notices being issued against two members of the public, banning them from school property.

Virginia Beach high schoolers no longer required to quarantine after exposure to virus

VIRGINIA BEACH (WAVY) - Virginia Beach high schoolers are no longer required to quarantine after exposure to someone infected with the coronavirus. The new policy went into effect on Monday, December 6. Public school students and staff will still have to continue to wear a mask, and there will still be contact tracing.

Chesterfield County Schools announce winter break curbside meal pickup

Parents can simply pick one up when they pick up their sick child from school. NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Parents and staff members of Newport News Public Schools who need a COVID-19 test don't have to go very far. School leaders announced they're now giving away free at-home coronavirus test kits to people within the division.
