Richmond School Board members vote to slash dozens of virtual academy positions despite pleas from teachers, parents

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - The future of the RPS Richmond Virtual Academy (RVA) is looking rocky as school board members voted to cut over half of the positions this coming fall, citing dips in enrollment and budget issues. City of Fairfax School Board approves new superintendent Jeff Platenberg's 4-year contract

City of Fairfax Schools' board voted to approved a 4-year contract forJeff Platenberg, the new superintendent of schools. The board voted to approve his contract 5 to 0. Harrisonburg schools to adjust some start times in the fall

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) - Harrisonburg City Public Schools students will soon be on summer vacation but they'll have some schedule adjustments when they return to school in the fall. The division will be changing the start time of some of its schools to make transportation more feasible for bus drivers.

Lynchburg native tapped as new superintendent for Halifax County

Dr. Amy D. Huskin signed a three-year contract as superintendent of Halifax County Public Schools at a Halifax County School Board meeting on Monday with an annual salary of $140,000. She currently serves as the director of curriculum, instruction & Career and Technical Education for Appomattox County Public Schools and will take on her new role on July 1.

Lynchburg City Schools are suffering from a substitute teacher shortage and are asking for the community's help. Lakrisha Scott, Director of LCS human resources department, said this is a nationwide problem. But Lynchburg City Schools are taking proactive steps before the next school year rolls around.

Meet Hanover School Board candidate Paul Heizer

The Mechanicsville District seat on the seven-member board expires June 30. Hanover is one of 16 localities in Virginia that appoints its School Board members. There's no public election; rather, board members are appointed by the county's Board of Supervisors for four-year, staggered terms. The Mechanicsville supervisor is W. Canova Peterson.
