Richmond school violated law by barring special needs student from in-person learning, state says

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) - The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) found Richmond Public Schools noncompliant after denying a special needs student in-person learning. Fairfax Co. schools move graduation ceremonies out of DC because of vaccination requirement | WTOP News

Stafford County Public Schools drops mask requirement

STAFFORD, Va. (WWBT) - Another school district is dropping its mask mandate. The Stafford County School Board voted 5-2 last night to end its requirement on Feb. 22. That's despite advice from its attorney to wait for the Virginia General Assembly to change the law to allow parents to decide whether their children should wear masks.

Name, image, likeness bill would prohibit high school athletes from signing 'predatory' deals

College athletes can now sign deals to profit off their name, image and likeness, but a group of delegates wants to prohibit high school athletes from signing such deals and limit the term length of contracts signed by college athletes, saying vulnerable athletes are being targeted for predatory offers.

Prince William school board to vote on suspending staff vaccine mandate

A resolution to suspend Prince William County Schools' vaccination or testing mandate for all staff will go for a vote next week. The proposal - made by Gainesville Board member Jennifer Wall, Board Chair Babur Lateef and Brentsville Board member Adele Jackson - would undo a resolution passed in September that mandated all staff to either be fully vaccinated by January or be subject to weekly COVID-19 testing.

Virginia Education Broadband Grant

Valued up to $30,000- Applications must be received by February 18, 2022

In honor of VSBA’s 115th Anniversary, a thank you for your work as school board members, and in service to Virginia’s children: Kajeet partnered with VSBA to announce the first-ever Virginia Education Broadband Grant program. This funding opportunity will help school board members continue the important work being done to ensure all students have digital learning access at school and at home.


In total, Kajeet will award over $250,000 in broadband services to Virginia school

boards to solve the digital divide and ensure that all students have access to learn, anytime, anywhere.
