Arlington schools changes COVID-19 protocols | WTOP News

Arlington Public Schools is cutting the number of days COVID-19-positive students need to stay in isolation. The Virginia school system said it moved to a five-day isolation period for students who test positive for COVID-19 on Thursday - regardless of vaccination status.

Highland Spring students celebrate decisions for life after high school

HENRICO, Va. (WWBT) - Thursday was Decision Day at Highland Springs High School where about 200 students signed certificates cementing their next steps for the future. Most of the students decided to go to colleges, including big-name schools such as UVA, Virginia Tech, ODU, LSU, Spellman and Penn State.

Northside Middle School teacher wins highest teaching honor in Roanoke County Public Schools

ROANOKE, Va. - A Northside Middle School teacher won a top teaching honor for her unwavering dedication and commitment to her students. On Wednesday, the Roanoke County Public Schools Education Foundation awarded Amber Benson with the 2022 Golden Apple Award. The prestigious award is the highest honor that is presented annually to a teacher in Roanoke County Public Schools.

The Virginia Association of School Superintendents held their annual conference recently in Roanoke where Martinsville City Public School Superintendent Dr. Zebedee Talley Jr. was commemorated for his service. Talley received a gavel and plaques for his service to VASS as President for the 2021-2022 academic year.

RPS works to finalize rezoning plans for River City Middle School students

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - Following Monday's vote to rezone the over-crowded River City Middle School, along with Boushall, Brown and Binford Middle Schools, the race is on to finalize where students will wind up come fall. Richmond Public Schools administration says parents who've applied for an open enrollment seat won't have to wait much longer to find out where their student is going.

Liberty High School Student Moves to National Competition

Two projects from the Bedford History Day club placed at state competition at the Virginia History Museum in Richmond and one will represent Virginia at the virtual National History Day competition in June. Sara Johnson, a junior at Liberty High School, placed first in Individual Performance.

Williamsburg-James City County School Board reverses decision on textbook purchase

"After the first motion was defeated, I immediately tried to offer an amended version to include all of the social studies books with the exception of the AP government textbook, but I did not receive a second," school board member Julie Hummel said. "This resulted in none of the social studies textbooks being adopted.

Input wanted from Chesterfield residents on new middle school facade

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WWBT) - Residents are being asked for their input on what a new middle school will look like in the Magnolia Green area. The new facility - identified as the "New MS - Upper Magnolia Green (360W)" at the Board of Supervisors meeting in April - will accommodate about 1,800 students.
