The Spotsylvania County School Board fired Superintendent Scott Baker without cause during an unruly meeting Monday. The board voted to approve Baker's termination without cause after coming out of a closed session that may have violated Virginia's open meeting requirements.

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - When Chesapeake's new school board chair took his seat on the dais Monday night, he wanted to make clear his stance on recent behavior surrounding school board meetings. Longtime school board member Harry Murphy was elected chair at the beginning of the meeting with fellow longtime member Tom Mercer being elected vice-chair.

"I think what this vote symbolizes is a change in board dynamics in many ways," Gibson said. "I hope that this year will be a year where we see different types of governance, and I believe that we can do that, but we need the help of the administration."

The Fauquier County School Board Monday night announced that Vincent Gallo will be the new interim school board representative for Scott District. The 30-year-old father of two will be sworn in Tuesday, in time to attend the Jan. 12 school board summit.

(WAVY) - In accordance with recent guidance released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the York County School Division is shortening the required COVID-19 isolation and quarantine periods. York schools announced on Monday night that the shorter isolation and quarantine periods would be effective starting Tuesday.
