Spotsylvania Superintendent fired without cause by new School Board

The Spotsylvania County School Board fired Superintendent Scott Baker without cause during an unruly meeting Monday. The board voted to approve Baker's termination without cause after coming out of a closed session that may have violated Virginia's open meeting requirements.

New Chesapeake School Board chair addresses threats, division bans 4 from meetings

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - When Chesapeake's new school board chair took his seat on the dais Monday night, he wanted to make clear his stance on recent behavior surrounding school board meetings. Longtime school board member Harry Murphy was elected chair at the beginning of the meeting with fellow longtime member Tom Mercer being elected vice-chair.

Vincent Gallo selected for open Scott District school board seat

The Fauquier County School Board Monday night announced that Vincent Gallo will be the new interim school board representative for Scott District. The 30-year-old father of two will be sworn in Tuesday, in time to attend the Jan. 12 school board summit.

Prince William school staffers begin collective bargaining push

Just as students return from winter break, the push for collective bargaining rights for Prince William County Public Schools employees is beginning. With schools now reopened after last week's snow days, representatives for the Prince William Education Association at the division's 94 school buildings planned to begin collecting signatures from teachers, custodians, transportation staff and other school employees.

Virginia bill targets admissions systems at Governor's Schools - with possible repercussions for TJ High

A Republican lawmaker has introduced a bill that would bar Virginia's Governor's Schools from considering race in admissions - a piece of legislation some see as a direct assault on recent changes to the admissions process at prestigious magnet school Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology.

Mother Advocates for Mandated Statewide Parent, Student Driver Education Class | Williamsburg Yorktown Daily

YORK COUNTY - A local mother is closer to getting a law passed that would require all Virginia parents to be involved in their child's student driver education class. In October 2019, Tammy Gweedo McGee's 16-year-old son Conner Guido was one of three Tabb High School teenagers who died in a car accident that shook the community.

York County schools shorten isolation, quarantine periods for students and staff

Stafford High School theater students to compete for national title
