Portsmouth Public Schools hosting upcoming COVID-19 vaccine clinic

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - Students in Portsmouth will be able to receive their COVID-19 vaccine during an upcoming clinic. Portsmouth Public Schools is partnering with the Portsmouth Health Department to offer COVID-19 vaccination clinics for children ages 5-17. All vaccines administered at these clinics will be the Pfizer vaccine, and parents/legal custodians must accompany their child for the vaccination.

Hanover School Board drops plan to make outsiders speak last

Fredericksburg officials vote to advance plans to build new school

Fredericksburg is one step closer to building a new middle school. City Council voted 6-1 Thursday night to enter an interim agreement with First Choice LLC-a partnership between Moseley Architects and English Construction Co.-to build a new middle school in the Idlewild subdivision.

New Nelson County schools superintendent named

Amanda C. Hester, who currently serves as Louisa County Public Schools' assistant superintendent for instruction, was named Friday as Nelson County Public Schools' next superintendent, effective July 1. Hester brings almost 19 years of experience in public school teaching and administration in multiple divisions and has served as the Spotsylvania High School principal, according to a Nelson County Public Schools news release.

Chesterfield County Schools no longer has bus driver vacancies

After starting off the school year with a bus driver deficit that caused extra routes for drivers, bus delays and traffic nightmares for parents picking up and dropping off students, Chesterfield County Public Schools announced Thursday morning that the division is fully staffed with bus drivers.

Proposed budget for Caroline County includes level-funding for schools

Caroline County Public Schools would receive level funding next fiscal year under the budget proposed last week by County Administrator Charles Culley. Culley is recommending a local transfer of $15.3 million to the school division in his budget for fiscal year 2023, which begins July 1-the same amount the schools received in the current fiscal year and about $1 million less than the schools requested.
