New Kent school board to examine policy on cellphones in classrooms

Roanoke County Schools earns best community for music designation for 18th time since 2002

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - Roanoke County Public Schools announced Wednesday it has earned a Best Communities for Music Designation (BCME) from the NAMM Foundation for the 18th time. The county earned the designation in 2002-2004, 2006, 2008-2019 and 2021-2022. "Our students are learning from some of the best performing arts teachers in the state.

Virginia schools establish program to combat student food insecurity

The Virginia Department of Education is working alongside regional food hubs to provide students with almost $2.2 million worth of healthy meals. The Centralized Local Procurement Pilot Program is meant to help school nutrition programs, avoid supply chain disruptions and strengthen regional food systems. VDOE has identified over 70 school divisions as eligible to join the program based on their proximity to a regional food hub.
