The Virginia Council on the Interstate Compact for Military Children awarded five Stafford County Public Schools with 2022 Purple Star Designation; Margaret Brent Elementary and North Stafford High School for the first time, Rockhill, Widewater, and Winding Creek elementary schools for the second time.

Henrico Schools upgrading to digital school floor plans

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - Whether it's a school fire or threat, first responders will now have the best information to help respond to these emergencies as quickly as possible in Henrico County Public Schools. School division audit wouldn't be cheap, report shows

Last month, the Frederick County Board of Supervisors floated the idea of auditing Frederick County Public Schools to get access to information about the division's spending that board members claim has not been made available to them. An audit, some supervisors indicated, would allow them to know for certain where taxpayer dollars are being spent.

Botetourt County Sheriff's Office awarded funding for new school resource officer position

BOTETOURT COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) - The Botetourt County Sheriff's Office has been awarded grant funding for a new school resource officer (SRO). The funding will allow each school in Botetourt County to have a resource officer. "The safety of our children has been and will continue to be a top priority for the Botetourt County Sheriff's Office," said Sheriff Matt Ward.

Hanover launches new program to combat teacher shortage

HANOVER CO., Va. (WWBT) - As school divisions across Virginia are still working to find teachers, Hanover County Public Schools is combating the teacher shortage with a new program that could help other divisions. The Provisional Academy for Teachers in Hanover, also known as PATH, allows teachers to be in the classroom while earning their license.

Petersburg schools launch attendance campaign to curb chronic absenteeism

PETERSBURG, Va. (WWBT) - Over the weekend, Petersburg City Public School administrators and teachers launched a campaign to fight chronic absenteeism in the classroom. The teachers and administrators focused on neighborhoods of students at risk of being truant by going door to door and speaking directly with them and their parents at their homes.
