General Assembly Session Overview The 2019 Session convened on January 9th and adjourned Sine Die on February 24th. The Home Builders Association of Virginia was tracking over 150 pieces of legislation that had a direct or indirect impact on the residential land development and construction industry. The 2019 HBAV Annual Conference and Installation of Officers will be held June 20-23 at The Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. This two day, three-night conference brings together leaders in residential construction from throughout Virginia. Metro Real Estate Arlington County, Va.’s home inventory is down 38% from one year ago, and median closing prices jumped up 10 %.   30 Year Mortgage Rate Falls For the second straight month, information compiled by Freddie Mac shows that mortgage rates continued to fall in January 2019. The 30-year FRM – Commitment rate, fell by another 17 basis points to 4.46 percent from 4.64 percent in December. The cycle peak was 4.87 percent in November. 2019 Builders Show Draws Largest Crowd in 10 Years More than 67,000 home building professionals from around the world filled the exhibit halls of the Las Vegas Convention Center as NAHB hosted the 75th anniversary of the International Builders’ Show (IBS) Feb. 19-21. $60K in Grants Awarded from NAHB Legal Action Fund, $10K to HBAV Member The NAHB Legal Action Committee awarded $60,000 in grants to members and local and state associations that applied to NAHB’s Legal Action Fund during last week’s International Builders’ Show.
