Cervical Health Awareness Month in January is a chance to share information about how women can protect themselves from HPV (human papillomavirus) and cervical cancer. HPV is a very common infection that spreads through sexual activity, and it causes almost all cases of cervical cancer.
The good news? The HPV vaccine (shots) can prevent HPV, and regular screening tests and follow-up care can help prevent cervical cancer. Cervical Health Awareness Month is a great time to raise awareness about cervical health and the importance of getting regular cervical cancer screenings.

January is National Blood Donor Month
|
|
Did you know that every two seconds someone in the United States needs blood? Or that winter months make it extremely difficult to collect the necessary amount of blood and platelets needed to supply hospitals? This January, the American Red Cross celebrates National Blood Donor Month and recognizes the lifesaving contribution of blood and platelet donors.
National Blood Donor Month has been celebrated each January for nearly 50 years and coincides with one of the most difficult times to maintain a sufficient blood supply for patients.
When it comes to blood and platelet donations, the winter season is often filled with hurdles as blood drives compete with things such as seasonal illnesses and inclement weather. A donation shortfall over the winter holidays has prompted the American Red Cross to issue an emergency call for blood and for platelet donors to give now to prevent a blood shortage from continuing throughout winter and affecting patient care.

- Premature infants
- Infants, especially those 6 months and younger
- Children younger than 2 years old with chronic lung disease or congenital (present from birth) heart disease
- Children with weakened immune systems
- Children who have neuromuscular disorders, including those who have difficulty swallowing or clearing mucus secretions

Flu: What to Do If You Get Sick
Most people with flu have mild illness and do not need medical care or antiviral drugs. If you get sick with flu symptoms, in most cases, you should stay home and avoid contact with other people except to get medical care.
If, however, you have symptoms of flu and are in a higher-risk group, or are very sick or worried about your illness, contact your health care provider (doctor, physician assistant, etc.).

Resolve to be Smokefree in 2023
New Year is the most popular time of the year to hit the proverbial “reset” button—an opportunity to set new goals and resolve to live a happier and healthier life.
One common resolution people make is to quit smoking. Most adults who smoke want to quit. And quitting is possible! Since 2002, there are more people who used to smoke than people who currently smoke. Quitting smoking is one of the best decisions a person who smokes can make to improve their health and to protect the health of others.
Choosing to quit smoking as a New Year’s resolution can be a challenge, but with a solid plan in place, you can make 2023 the year you’ve quit for good! There is no better time to quit than right now!
