Since 1949, Mental Health America and our affiliates across the country have observed May is Mental Health Month by reaching out to millions of people through the media, local events, and screenings. We invite other organizations to join us in spreading the word that mental health is something everyone should care about by using the May is Mental Health Month toolkit materials and conducting awareness activities.
After the last two years of pandemic living, many people are realizing that stress, isolation, and uncertainty have taken a toll on their well-being.
This year, the theme of MHA’s 2022 Mental Health Month Toolkit is "Back to Basics." Our goal is to provide foundational knowledge about mental health & mental health conditions and information about what people can do if their mental health is a cause for concern.

Pharmacy Precision Clinics
The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) Division of Pharmacy Services developed a COVID-19 vaccination program called Pharmacy Precision Clinics (PPCs) to vaccinate as many Virginians as possible. Precision Clinics operate by partnering with local participating pharmacies to administer COVID-19 vaccines.
Pharmacy Precision Clinics are available to faith and community-based organizations interested in making COVID-19 vaccinations. PPCs are free of charge to the community.
|
|
To request a PPC, interested organizations should complete and submit this REDCap survey. There are no minimum or maximum number of vaccination requirements to request a clinic.
|
|
Once the survey is submitted; the appropriate Local Health Department (LHD) will be notified and will initiate the process of coordinating the requested clinic. If an LHD is unable to facilitate the coordination, the VDH Division of Pharmacy Services team will ensure that a clinic is coordinated as per the request.

Know the Facts About Stroke
Stroke kills nearly 150,000 of the 860,000 Americans who die of cardiovascular disease each year—that’s 1 in every 19 deaths from all causes.
Are you at risk?
Several factors that are beyond your control can increase your risk for stroke. These include your age, sex, and ethnicity. But there are many unhealthy habits, such as smoking, drinking too much alcohol, and not getting enough exercise, that you can change to lower your stroke risk.
Can it be prevented?
-
Maintain a healthy weight. CDC’s Healthy Weight website includes information and tools to help you lose weight.
-
Be physically active. Visit CDC’s Physical Activity website for more information on being active.
|
|
-
Prevent or manage your other health conditions, especially high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, and obesity. Visit CDC’s High Blood Pressure, Cholesterol, and Diabetes webpages on these conditions to learn more.

It’s Okay To Not Be Okay
Each year millions of Americans face the reality of living with a mental illness. During May, NAMI Virginia joins the national movement to raise awareness about mental health. Each year we fight stigma, provide support, educate the public and advocate for policies that support people with mental illness and their families. The past year has tested our resiliency and patience. From the coronavirus pandemic to surges in social, racial, and political unrest, there is a lot going on in the world. This Mental Health Awareness Month, we recognize and honor the 1 in 5 diagnosed with a mental health condition, and the 5 in 5 affected by one: everyone has something to share or learn in our fight for Mental Health for All.

Acts of targeted violence against houses of worship are a real—and potentially growing—problem in the United States and a top priority for the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). CISA has prepared this comprehensive security guide based on original analysis to help houses of worship develop a comprehensive security strategy to mitigate future incidents.
In this security guide, CISA analyzed ten years of targeted attacks on houses of worship to provide context to the enterprise-wide security recommendations outlined in the previous chapters. The case studies reviewed are examples of the breadth of threats a house of worship faces daily.

Many people aren’t fully aware of the severity of the childhood hunger crisis in the United States. With that, many parents are searching to find resources available in their community to help them feed their children. Every kid needs three meals a day to grow up healthy, happy and strong. But today in America, too many children are missing those meals.
|
|
The good news? This is a problem we know how to solve. Enter your address to find free, healthy meals being served by organizations in your community. We do not use your information for any other purpose than to locate food assistance.

Hepatitis Awareness Month
The month of May is designated as Hepatitis Awareness Month in the United States, and May 19th is Hepatitis Testing Day. During May, CDC and our public health partners work to shed light on the impact of these hidden epidemics by raising awareness of viral hepatitis while encouraging testing and vaccination. Hepatitis Awareness Month activities help to improve everyone’s understanding of viral hepatitis transmission and risk factors and to decrease social stigma against viral hepatitis.
Both hepatitis A and hepatitis B are preventable with safe and effective vaccines, and hepatitis C is curable with prescribed treatment. Getting tested is the only way to know if you have hepatitis A, hepatitis B or hepatitis C. Learn more.
