Dearest Friends,
We are faced with unprecedented times across the world and especially in the healthcare industry. So many of the people we work with are sacrificing it all to take care of our communities … working on the front lines serving those who are unwell, fighting this virus, and searching for a cure. Many of us find ourselves working remotely, sheltering-in-place, and socially distanced from our friends, our family, and our peers and colleagues.
AZWIHC wants to help by facilitating the sharing of information and resources that you or your co-workers need. We will kick off with a virtual check-in (see below) to discuss how you all are doing and share tips to manage during this time.
We will schedule virtual meet-ups and webinars to share different ways to stay healthy, care for our spiritual, physical and mental health, tips on leading and communicating in uncertain times and share resources with each other.
We also are including links to previous Lunch and Learn webinars that cover a variety of management and leadership topics.
We are in this together and now is a time to come together and raise each other up.
If you have:
- a topic you want to share on how to maintain our physical, spiritual, mental health,
- a leadership tip,
- resources for anything to help us all,

As a way to provide self-care education to the Phoenix community Evolution Acupuncture expanded it's services in January 2019 to offer workshops in the Traditional Chinese modality of Gua Sha. Owner/Acupuncturist Pamela Wake created custom protocols that follow the same Meridians used in an Acupuncture treatment to allow participants to experience immediate changes in symptoms affecting their body and levels of stress. She has put together free video clips to share with her community to use to alleviate common issues such as neck and hand pain in a format that is relaxed and can easily be done in the comfort of your home. She also has provided links on this page to her complete courses that address Smartphone Thumb, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and a beauty wellness course that walks you through how to Rejuvenate Your Face. All of these courses use Gua Sha to invoke immediate change and healing in the different systems of the body. She is also offering Gift Cards to purchase for friends and family that can be redeemed in the future when social distancing has been lifted.

Volunteers Needed: Medical . Clinical . Non-Health Care . Public Health
Are you a healthcare professional interested in volunteering for the COVID-19 Response or other public health emergencies? The Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) needs emergency response volunteers to call upon during a time of need. The knowledge and skills you have can help make a difference during a disaster.
The first step in volunteering is to register with the Arizona Emergency System for the Advance Registration of Volunteer HealthProfessionals
(
AZ-ESAR-VHP
).
Once registered,
request membership into the COVID-19 Response or other categories of interest. You can also get involved with opportunities by connecting with your
local
medical reserve corps
by visiting
https://mrc.hhs.gov/FindMRC
.
The AZ ESAR-VHP system pushes requests for volunteers as the response evolves. We would greatly appreciate it if you can start the registration process, so we can keep you informed of our volunteer needs during this pandemic.
The advance registration of volunteer health professionals enables the Arizona Department of HealthServices (ADHS), local health departments, and emergency management to rapidly identify and mobilize health care volunteers. The system also enables hospitals and other medical entities to meet crisis and surge capacity needs and ensure the continuance of critical health care services.
AZ-ESAR-VHP is a secure, system used to register, qualify and credential Arizona health care professionals before a major public health or medical emergency. From this site, registrants may also elect to join local medical reserve corps units and other community volunteer response teams.
AZ-ESAR-VHP is administeredby ADHS/Bureau of Public Health Emergency Preparedness (BPHEP) and provided through Intermedix EM Systems (CORES Responder Management System).

How Can I Keep Myself Healthy?
One of the most important things you can do, especially during stressful times, is keep yourself healthy - both physically and emotionally. The more you can do to keep yourself healthy the better. Here are three ways that make a huge difference to your health. As an added bonus, all of these things are relatively easy to do!
1.
Eat for optimal health
. There’s never been a better time to overhaul your eating habits. Staying away from processed foods and ramping up your intake of fresh, organic fruits and vegetables can give your immune system the support it needs to keep you healthy.
Limit your intake of sugar
(including alcohol), which can really damage immune function.
You’ll want to be sure to get an adequate supply of many key nutrients that boost your immune system functioning. What are those, you may ask?

Vitamin C:
Citrus, broccoli, brussels sprouts, cauliflower, green and red peppers, spinach, cabbage, leafy greens, sweet and white potatoes, tomatoes, and winter squash (e.g., acorn, butternut, calabaza, delicate, pumpkin). ...
Vitamin E:
Sunflower Seeds, almonds, avocados, spinach, Swiss chard, butternut squash
Vitamin A:
Eggs, Fortified skim milk, orange and yellow veggies and fruits, broccoli, spinach, and most dark, green leafy veggies. ...
Vitamin D:
Fatty fish like tuna, maceral, and salmon; cheese, egg yolks.. ...
Folate/folic acid:
Legumes, asparagus, eggs, leafy greens, beets, citrus, brussels sprouts, broccoli.
Iron:
Lean red meat, chicken, seafood, lentils and beans, tofu, dried fruits (e.g., prunes, figs, apricots) . ...
Selenium:
Brazil nuts, yellowfin tuna, halibut, sardines, turkey, grass fed beef, turkey, chicken, eggs, spinach. ...
Zinc:
Meat, shellfish, legumes, seeds, nuts, dairy, eggs, whole grains.
2.
Support your adrenal glands.
Your adrenals are vitally important to keeping your immune system strong. Stress relief is essential to adrenal support. Now, more than ever, you must make time for yourself. Keep moving with gentle exercise, like walking, yoga, Pilates, or tai chi. Make sleep a priority. Set aside time to meditate, journal, or enjoy a cup of tea. Anything that helps you manage stress and calm your nervous system will help keep your body strong and healthy.
3.
Disconnect physically, not emotionally
. Social distancing does not mean social disengagement. Do not neglect your need for social connection – especially if you are living alone. There are so many great ways to stay connected in our modern world. With the internet, the world is at our fingertips. Phone calls, text messages, emails and even letter writing can help keep you connected with loved ones, even if you can’t be together.
