Virtual Home & Appliance Repair
With the Coronavirus still a very real concern, many homeowners are leery to invite workers into their homes. Yet with the increased amount of time spent at home, appliances, fixtures and home systems are being taxed more than usual. Fortunately, there are options that allow for the virtual diagnosis of a problem, as well as assistance walking homeowners through simple repairs, eliminating the need to have a repair person enter your home all together. If a repair is beyond the skills of the homeowner, a list of local professionals capable of making the repair can be provided. Click here for some virtual home and appliance repair resources.

Five Feet High and Rising: The Geology and History of Great Floods, July 23 & 30, 1:30 - 3 pm. Floods are awesome spectacles and are an essential part of the shaping of our landscape. All the geologic processes of rivers are on display during floods. Hydrogeologist Joe Haberfeld will introduce the stream processes which transport water and sediment during normal flow and during floods.

We will look at some of the great floods in American history and around the world. Not all floods are due to rivers overflowing their banks and not all are due to natural causes. Coastal storms, glaciers, and volcanic eruptions can bring flooding, while man-made structures designed to protect against flooding have failed causing great loss of life and property.

This is a 2 session class. Register one time only and you are registered for both sessions. To register for the class, click here. A Zoom link to join the event will be emailed to you the day before the class.

Brainteaser Challenge
Let's keep our minds challenged and active!

The correct answers to last Tuesday's language brainteaser (Braingle.com submitted by MarcM1098Aca) are: 1. lease / release; 2. return / turn; 3. serve / reserve; 4. coup / recoup; 5. reactor / actor; 6. reprove / prove; 7. fine / refine; and, 8. remote / mote

Congratulations to the three top winners: Benny D’Souza (33 minutes),
Chris Livaudais, and Don Ruane!

Here's another fun and challenging Brainteaser, " Off With Their Heads ," submitted to Braingle.com by MarcM1098 . It's time to get back at the Queen of Hearts by beheading words that start with "Qu" . In this case, you remove the first TWO letters and still have a valid word. You will be given clues for the two words, longer word first. For example: British pound -> Part of the psyche; Answer: the words Quid and Id. Here are your clues:

1. Stop doing -> That thing
2. Peculiar behavior -> Annoy
3. Subatomic particle -> Large boat
4. Unit of liquid measure -> Product of creativity
5. Small game bird -> To be unwell
6. Large feather; pen -> Unwell; faulty
7. Nausea; uncomfortable -> Simple
8. Misgivings; scruples -> Donations to the poor

Share your answer with Nancy O'Pry Gentry, Special Projects, at  Nancy.Gentry@talgov.com ! The first three people to answer correctly will get a "shout out" during the Friday Update on Facebook . Find more brainteasers at www.braingle.com

CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) Resource Card
How to Protect Yourself and Others
If a COVID-19 outbreak happens in your community it could last for a while, and being prepared could help keep you safe and slow the spread of the disease. Stay informed and up to date with local reporting and take action daily before, during, and after the event to protect yourself and others.
  • Avoid crowds and others who are sick. Stay home if you feel sick.
  • If you must go out, wear a mask and try to stay at least six feet away from other people. Local resources for masks can be found at masksfortally.com.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth, wash your hands often. Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds and use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer when soap and water are not available.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched hard surfaces such as countertops, tables, chairs, door knobs, light switches, remote controls, phones, handles, toilets, faucets and sinks.
