Noon to 1 p.m.  Basic Cardistry with Michael Dummeyer via Zoom A brief history into the world of playing cards and an introduction to cardistry, the performance art of card flourishing. Learn and practice how to throw, fan and manipulate playing cards for fun, and some simple magic tricks. Participants will need a deck of playing cards to get started and practice.

Michael Dummeyer is the creator and purveyor of Flex Deck Playing Cards. "In 2017, we wanted to bring multiple games with us camping in the Grand Canyon. To save weight and space in our bags, we decided to put them all in one deck of cards. Since then, I've taken that invention and brought it to market, sold it online and to multiple retailers. During the inventing process, I did a lot of research on playing cards, past and the current market, learning basic cardistry along the way. I'm looking forward to having fun while we meet for MakeFest."

1:15 to 2:15 p.m. Everything Isn't Awesome Right Now, But Knitting Is With Kate Kosturski via Zoom Instead of spending your quarantine time doomscrolling because you ran out of things to watch on Netflix, why not take up a new hobby? Find out how knitting can benefit your physical and mental health, and how it's not your grandma's craft anymore. We'll also provide online resources to learn to knit, as well as places to connect with other knitters. There will be a brief demonstration of how to cast on and what a knit and purl stitch look like.

By day, Kate Kosturski sells physics to librarians in Europe. By night, she turns the physics of knitting on its head, throwing down mad stitches while watching everything from Doctor Who to Star Wars to random 80s commercials on YouTube. A knitter since 2008, Kate is also on the board of the Big Apple Knitters Guild, running its website and social media. You can also find her some Friday nights at the Knit in the Pit virtual meetups. In addition, Kate also is an Eisner-award winning comic journalist, with contributions at Women Write About Comics, PanelxPanel magazine, and Multiversity Comics (where she also runs the social media).

2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Illustrating and Drawing Webcomics with Tony Wolf via Zoom A presentation of a step-by-step guide about how Tony writes and draws a comic, giving particular attention to autobiographical comics. He will also be discussing illustration and drawing in general, and things to keep in mind when doing layouts and planning out your comic. There will be an opportunity for Q&A.

Tony Wolf has written and illustrated four comics journalism pieces for The New York Times in the last several years. He has also written and drawn autobio comics and history comics highlighted in New York Magazine, The New Statesman, Gothamist, and other comics websites. 6 to 8 p.m.  Jackbox Games Online via YouTube Continue the MakeFest fun with a special evening online gaming session! Join in and compete in a variety of wacky and creative games ranging from silly trivia to goofy drawings to clever lying. It will be fun for the entire family.
