Please join us for a Transportation and Infrastructure Committee meeting on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, to hear from Ms. Samantha Silverberg, a senior Biden Administration official in the White House Infrastructure Implementation Office to discuss how the historic bipartisan infrastructure law is being implemented throughout New England. Note: this virtual meeting was originally scheduled for December 13th and we are re-sending this invitation to invite all members once again to register.
The New England Council weighed-in with our Congressional delegation over a number of years encouraging their support for the passage of a multi-faceted infrastructure bill that would address the needs of our region and the nation. In the fall of 2021, Congress did pass such a bill – the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) – and President Biden signed it into law on November 15, 2021. We were pleased and proud to support that legislation.
Having recently marked the one-year anniversary of this new law, we at the Council wanted to check-in with the team that is responsible for making sure all the benefits reach the states, the localities, and other interested stakeholders to see how things are going. Ms. Silverberg is an integral part of that team and will be able to provide the Committee with an update as to how the benefits of the IIJA are being utilized – everything from building new roads and bridges, enhancing our grid, constructing new water systems, modernizing airports, expanding broadband across New England, and much more. In addition, she will be able to answer our questions on how the various provisions of this new law will be carried out in future years.
