Re. KBA COVID-19 Taskforce Update re. Virtual Notarization Issue
Dear KBA members:
I hope you are staying healthy and adjusting to virtual practice (not easy!) Since the beginning of the pandemic, our members have identified the ability to administer notarization virtually as a vital important issue to lawyers and our clients. Allowing virtual notarization will protect the health and well-being of lawyers and clients, while enabling wills, powers of attorneys, and other personal and business transactions to continue.
The KBA COVID-19 Taskforce has been working closely with the Kansas Secretary of State’s Office, Kansas Bankers Association, the Kansas Land Title Association and individual KBA members to impress upon the Governor the need for remote notaries. The Kansas Secretary of State's Office drafted an executive order, with input from the KBA and other interested groups, that was just approved and signed by Governor Kelly.
By issuing this Executive Order, Kansas will join our neighboring states that have allowed remote notarization of certain legal documents. You can review those other orders by visiting the following links.
