Free Fresh Groceries Available Every Tuesday
The Area Agency on Aging of the South Alabama Regional Planning Commission is pleased to announce the availability of free fresh produce and other groceries for senior citizens and families every Tuesday in June, with no income restrictions. Julie McGee, Area Agency on Aging Director, announced that "these 21 pound boxes of fresh milk, cheese, butter, fresh fruits, fresh vegetables and cooked frozen meats are being made available through our partnership with the Alabama Department of Senior Services, GA Foods, and the USDA's Farm to Families initiative. We hope that these fresh food boxes will help address economic stress due to the current pandemic, and difficulties some face with in-store shopping." Food is being distributed through SARPC's partnership with The Food Pantry at Central for Mobile County and Prodisee Pantry for Baldwin County. This program may be extended throughout the summer, check for updates in July.
For Mobile County, every Tuesday the food distribution is through Central Presbyterian Church at 1260 Dauphin Street from 10:30 to Noon, with line-up across the street at the Alabama School of Math and Science parking lot. For Baldwin County, every Tuesday the distribution is at Prodisee Pantry in Spanish Fort from 9:00-11:30am, line up and sign in at Spanish Fort Highschool, and bring proof of Baldwin County residency.
