Virtual Safety Week Begins Today
We are excited to launch the 2021 Safety Week!

MCDOT's Safe Routes to School program and Montgomery County Public Schools have a week's worth of activities for your family to participate in from your own home.

This weeklong free event, which has been developed for elementary and middle school students and their families, emphasizes the need to be safe and look out for others in all forms of travel.

Families that participate can upload a photo, and 20 people will be randomly chosen to receive a $15 Amazon gift card. The winners will be notified on Monday, May 24.

Virtual Safety Week aims to remind children and parents about the importance of pedestrian, bicycle and traffic safety.
Bike Anywhere Day
Thanks to everyone who participated in our Helmet Decorating Contest for Bike Anywhere Day!

to kick off Bike to School Day (May 5th), we launched our Bike Anywhere Day Helmet Decorating Contest. This initiative encouraged children to not only ride their bikes to school, but around their neighborhoods safely. We loved seeing all the creativity that went into the designs. Be sure to follow us on social media to stay in the loop for upcoming contests.

  • Follow the rules of the road
  • Do your ABC check (Air, Brakes, Chain)

Ready to Roll & PrevCon
We are proud to announce that the MCDOT SRTS program was selected to be part of the "Ready to Roll" Program from Safe Kids Worldwide! We look forward to hosting the community at some events this summer.

Duwan Morris, SRTS Program Manager, will be a speaker at the Safe Kids Worldwide PrevCon, a virtual childhood injury prevention convention, in a session titled "Virtual Education: Adapting to Reach Children During the Pandemic." If you are interested in attending the conference, visit their website to learn more about it.
Engineering Update
The SRTS Engineering team recently completed improvements near Schuyler Rd and Manchester Rd in Silver Spring. The improvements included signage upgrades, markings and a new curb bump out. We are hoping these improvements help the students of Highland View Elementary School travel to and from school safely.

MCDOT is dedicated to pedestrian safety. Our traffic safety program combines engineering and education throughout the community.
