Join us as we explore the stories held in the galleries of the newly opened
Museum of the Southern Jewish Experience

Tuesday, February 8th | 10 AM

Spanning thirteen states and three hundred years, the MSJE's core exhibition explores the diverse relationships, experiences, and environments encountered by Jewish communities in the American South. We’ll discuss artifacts and stories from early Jewish immigrants as they navigated southern spaces to find and build communities. Learn how southern Jews maintained their identity and became part of the fabric of southern society.

The MSJE team will walk us through the galleries and have a conversation about this unique yet universal story. 

About MSJE: The Museum of the Southern Jewish Experience explores the many ways that Jews in the American South influenced and were influenced by the distinct cultural heritage of their new homes. Through exhibits, collections and programs focused on the unique and remarkable history of Southern Jews, the Museum encourages new understanding and appreciation for identity, diversity, and acceptance. Focus on Abortion:
Americans Share their Stories
*Program will now be virtual

Author and photographer Roslyn Banish gives both face and voice to 62 individuals who have either experienced an abortion themselves or through someone they love or have treated. The storytellers in Focus on Abortion come
 from diverse socio-economic backgrounds, different regions and are of varied ages, but they each touch on the complex circumstances leading to the difficult decision to end a pregnancy. Banish has published a number of books and has exhibited her works in England and the United States.

This event is a partnership with The Center for the Study of Women, Gender and Sexuality at Rice University and recently this event became the Gray/Wawro Lecture.

Repro Shabbat is an opportunity for congregations, organizations, and communities to celebrate the critical importance of reproductive health access, reproductive rights, and reproductive justice, and to learn more about Judaism’s approach to these issues.
Reproductive freedom is a Jewish value.
Our communities should be places where anyone impacted personally by these issues feels loved and welcomed. They should be places where people understand what our tradition teaches. And they should be places where we understand the importance of fighting for reproductive health, rights, and justice for everyone.
