Chairman's Message
by Tim Pike, CPA
Giving back is one of the pillars of the Dallas CPA Society mission. I am humbled by the generosity of our members in our Month of Giving! Through 6 events, 46 of our members gave their time and considerable effort to positively impact the North Texas community. Whether it was assisting food pantries, preparing sandwiches for the city’s homeless, or supporting the Dallas Police Department and a respected mentoring organization, our members contributed to our community that has supported us!

In recognition of the charitable activities of our younger members, the DCPAS has collaborated with the Dallas Foundation to create the Young Philanthropy Award. The three finalists for this honor are Alison Daubert, Emily George and Tania Sederdahl. Who will win the first ever Dallas CPA Society
Young Philanthropy Award? Find out at our Annual Meeting of Members on January 16, 2019, as we present the inaugural prize.

December social happenings include our Annual Holiday Party , taking place at Park City Club on December 13 th , and a Brown Bag Lunch Series event on December 19 th . Check out the articles on these great events elsewhere in the newsletter and join us!

The New Science of Positive Psychology/
Psychiatry and How it Leads to Success

Course Description
Psychology and Psychiatry have always focused on illness with the goal of returning the patient to normal or average. This new field of science which was started just 20 years ago focuses on positive emotions and behavior with the goal of understanding how to strive for a more fulfilling life. Happiness, it seems, leads to success, and it can be said that success orbits around happiness. Strive first to be happy in the present, and you are more likely to become successful. Success will not lead to happiness.

The speaker will draw on many sources to give you a daily guide to increase your positive thinking and happiness and greatly improve your chances of success. The inspiration for this topic was "Positive Psychology 1504”, Harvard's groundbreaking course and "the most popular course in the history of Harvard University". Harvard's class is taught over 27.5 hours and teaches empathy, friendship, love, achievement, creativity, spirituality and humor. Penn now offers a Masters Degree in Applied Positive Psychology, and many other universities are planning the same. Let's focus on the positive not the negative for 50 minutes, what do you say? Those in public accounting really, really need this class...

Learning Objective
Learn the 5 daily steps to increase your happiness and the 6 factors for total well-being. The goal is to increase your happiness which is scientifically proven to increase your success in all aspect of life.
