Vis a Vis: Native Tongues |
Play Preview
This innovative documentary co-produced by Yerosha Productions, Inc., New York, and Nick Torrens Film Productions, Syndey, delves into the lives of two Indigenous solo performance artists--James Luna (Luiseno) and Ningali Lawford (Walmajarri) who was recently featured in the movie Rabbit-Proof Fence--over a four-day period as they come face-to-face via an interactive video link to share dialogue, performances and video diaries. Together, they examine the myths and stereotypes about Native people, but with very different approaches. While James tends to confront his issues and audiences head-on, Ningali is more likely to embrace viewers and mediate between her world and theirs. Prior to this documentary, neither James or Ningali had never met each other or seen each other's work.
