Chairman's Message

September marks the end of summer, the return of cooler temperatures (we hope!) and football season (GO COWBOYS!). As we eagerly await that first kickoff, we’re kicking off a new season of our own.
We have a wealth of social opportunities this month. On Saturday, September 17, we hope you’ll join us as we attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the number of sandwiches made in an hour. TangoTab, one of the Chapter’s favorite charities, is hosting this event. Come for fun, food, music and the chance to make history. September 22 is the date for our monthly Thirsty Thursday social networking hour, and on Tuesday, September 27, we partner with the Fort Worth Chapter for the First Annual North Texas TXCPA Members Mixer. Come mix and mingle, enjoy some refreshments, and get acquainted with our friends to the west.
If you’re in the mood for networking and CPE, the Business & Industry Committee has organized just the thing for you: a Behind-the-Scenes event at Encore Bank. On September 29, 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., you can enjoy refreshments, socializing, a tour of the Encore Bank facility, and receive an hour of CPE credit. For more on CPE, check out the listing of upcoming events later in the newsletter.
TXCPA Dallas has been an honored institution for nearly a century; an organization that reflects the ethical and professional integrity of the highly skilled men and women who have comprised its membership since inception. Like other long-standing professional associations, ours is being called on to self-examine and, where necessary, to correct its course to meet the challenges of these changing times. The TXCPA Dallas Governance Task Force has been created for this purpose: to review the policies and procedures of our past and present and make recommendations that will move us more effectively into the future. Over the next several weeks, this group will be reviewing our association bylaws and organizational structure in an effort to determine ways we might become more aligned with the principles of the Texas Society of CPAs and better execute our shared objective of providing support for the success of our members. You will receive updates on the progress of this important initiative.
I hope you’ll join us for the great events we have coming up this month and those to come. In the meantime, I wish you a productive, prosperous – and cooler! – September.
Kenny Broom, CPA
