New Representatives Take Seats on the CNTR Board and Scientific Advisory Committee

It's that time of year when we thank outgoing representatives for their service and welcome new faces to leadership roles in CNTR.

Many thanks are due to Angela Gibson, MD, who represented the American Burn Association on the Board of Directors from 2020 to 2024, and also served as secretary/treasurer over the past year. Filling her shoes is John Kubasiak, MD, of Loyola Medicine in Chicago.

Three members of our Scientific Advisory Committee have completed their highly productive terms of service: Sam Arbabi, MD (ACS-COT), Ajai Malhotra, MD (AAST), and Jason Smith, MD (EAST). Stepping up in their places are: Rob Todd, MD, Joseph DuBose, MD, and Lucy Kornblith, MD, respectively. The Scientific Advisory Committee develops and reviews research proposals, and their work led to a dozen submissions in the last year.

We look forward to working with all our new member organization representatives!

CNTR MEMBER SPOTLIGHT

The American Trauma Society/Trauma Survivor Network is a Stakeholder member of the coalition.

ATS/TSN LEADERSHIP IN CNTR

Stakeholder Advisory Council

  • Anna Newcomb, PhD

Scientific Advisory Committee

  • Anna Newcomb, PhD

Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Committee

  • Samir Fakhry, MD
  • Garrett Hall, BSN, RN

ATS and TSN have been important partners on several CNTR projects, including PCORI-funded CLOTT 3 and the Injury Research Engagement Project (I-REP).

TSN has been instrumental in recruiting trauma survivors to serve on our standing I-REP Patient & Caregiver Panel, which advises investigators on their patient-centered projects. Meeting quarterly over Zoom, this group of research-savvy stakeholders gives feedback on study design, communications, and outcome measures. Panel members often go on to serve as patient partners on specific projects.

NTRAP Research Gaps Spotlight

Zara Cooper, MD, FACS, NTRAP Injury Prevention Research Delphi Panel leader.

Top Priorities for Injury Prevention

Each month in 2024, we're showcasing the highest priority research gaps identified by panels of subject matter experts in 11 topic areas as part of the National Trauma Research Action Plan (NTRAP). Following are the top three gaps identified by the Injury Prevention Research Panel:

  • Do programs counseling police and law enforcement officers regarding implicit bias and de-escalation lead to a decrease in police-related shootings compared with historical controls?
  • Does greater inclusion of hospital-based violence prevention program (HVIP) intervention specialists lead to cost savings through a reduction in violence compared with regions that do not include intervention specialists?
  • Is having a HVIP program compared with not having a HVIP program associated with lower rates and sustained lower rates of violence in a community?
