The Message this Week

Preaching Text: Isaiah 9:1-7

To us a child is born! It may feel a little early for this passage from Isaiah, as we often hear it on Christmas Eve. Hearing it now is a good reminder that Isaiah’s words were interpreted as being fulfilled at other times. It was not all darkness until Jesus, there were moments of hope in between. Even in the midst of a lot of wrong, there can be glimmers of hope and possibility.  This is a good reminder because even after Jesus comes, there is plenty to do.

God of Promise, thank you for the voices of the prophets like Isaiah, who point to injustice and offer hope in the midst. Help us to see what we have to offer to speak to injustice and to bring hope. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

WONDERING...

Real questions from real people to learn more about faith.

What does Jesus save us from and why do we need saving?

  • Forgive us when we despair, and plant within us renewed passion for the work of your Spirit.
  • Make us loving stewards of nature, which you feed with your life-giving light, and which, in turn, makes our lives possible.
  • We give you thanks for all those who dedicate their lives in service to others, to the relief of suffering and the implementation of justice.
  • Be with those who bear daily burdens, be it mental or physical illness, fear of homelessness or hunger, or other challenges which test their resilience.
  • Shine your eternal light upon all your faithful servants, still living or alive in your resurrection, and surround them evermore with your blessing.

We lift all these prayers, and those of our hearts, to your loving care, O God. Receive them and restore our hope in your promises. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

The birth of a baby is typically a special time of love and hope for the future. But birth can also be one of the most challenging times we encounter, because it brings with it an overwhelming sense of responsibility and even fear as we do our best to raise our children to be happy, confident, and faithful adults. A Stephen Minister will be there for you with a caring, non-judgmental ear to listen to your concerns, and calm your fears by reminding you that God is always there to guide you through anything, including parenthood.

Contact Pastor Trudy for more information.
