May 17, 2023

Dear Pleasantville Families,

Effective tomorrow, May 18, 2023, we will implement a new set of Visitors to the Schools protocols that are designed to enhance the safety of each school in the District.

These protocols were developed to prioritize the safety of the students and staff, and they include a few major changes. When you visit a school:

  1. You will need to press a buzzer outside of the front door of the main entrance to alert the greeter of your arrival.
  2. Any drop off items will be left in the vestibule.
  3. Appointments are required to meet with school staff.
  4. You will need a photo ID.

As you may recall, the District decided last summer to update the main office entrance technology in each building so we could move to an external screening of visitors. We purchased the equipment and then, in early December, I assembled a Visitors Safety Task Force that reviewed and revised the visitor protocols. Last month, the equipment arrived and the District Safety Team reviewed the protocols and implementation plan. Since then, the system has been configured and is now operational.

I am so appreciative of the community members and staff who participated in this collaborative project. Members of the Visitors Safety Task Force included:

  • Rither Alabre, parent
  • Anthony Alessandrini, parent
  • Eric Andreoli, parent
  • Adam Chagares, Assistant Principal, Pleasantville Middle School
  • Steve Chamberlain, Director of Facilities
  • John Chow, Assistant Superintendent for Business
  • Anthony Crecco, parent
  • Katharine Cusack, parent
  • Cameron Fadjo, Assistant Superintendent for Instructional Services

  • Ashley O’Hara, parent and teacher
  • Michael Pinkava, Assistant Principal, Bedford Road School
  • Anthony Portera, parent

Please read the entire Visitors to the Schools protocols. We recognize the new protocols are a departure from our practice and may not be convenient. We remain committed to ensuring our schools are safe and appreciate your cooperation.

For the youth,

Dr. Tina DeSa
