Inclusion Book Club
This school year we will be launching a new school wide book club that will focus on educating our children and ourselves on racism/anti-racism. We are looking at books that can help families start conversations at home that will help children to better understand different things that are going on in our world today. We will be choosing a book each month for you to read along with your child/children. This is an in-home project and is not part of the school curriculum.
We will be breaking the school into two different book groups: K-2 and 3-5.
Below are the books we have chosen for the month of September:
For the K-2 group we are reading- “The Day You Begin” By Jacqueline Woodson
Below are some questions to help parents start conversations with their kids:
What is one way that you feel very different than most people around you?
How could people support you?
How could you support others who feel different?
What examples of people's differences did the author highlight in the story?
Below is a link of a read along for the book as well:
For the 3-5 group we are reading- “Let’s Talk About Race” By Julius Lester
Below are some questions to help parents start conversations with their kids:
How did this book make you feel?
Are you better at something than others (sports, school, art, etc)?
Does that make you better than them as a person?
What does it mean to say everyone is equal?
