Dear Friends,

Thank you for continuing to stand with Vista Maria and the youth and families we serve. This summer has been full of renewed purpose and important progress. Here's a look at what we’ve been working on together.

Ford Golf Outing Breaks a Record

On a beautiful June day at the Dearborn Country Club, our annual Ford Purchasing Golf Outing raised more than $170,000 for youth and families—the highest total in the event’s history! Guests heard a powerful speech from Jaedyn, a youth in our Shepherd Hall Transitional Living Program, who shared her story with honesty and strength. It was a day full of connection, generosity, and fun!

Ford has been one of Vista Maria’s longest standing and most generous partners. Their unwavering commitment reflects a deep belief in our mission and the potential of the young people and families we serve. We are truly grateful for their support.

Vista Maria in the News

We were honored to welcome WXYZ Detroit’s Carolyn Clifford to our campus for a powerful story about the youth we serve and the people who support them every day. The segment featured several of our incredible young people, along with staff who shared what it takes to create safety, healing, and trust.

We’re grateful to Carolyn Clifford for shining a light on this work and for giving our youth and staff the space to speak with honesty and heart.

Investing in Our Team and Campus

Across Michigan, residential programs like Vista Maria have been facing new and growing challenges. Youth have more complex trauma, risky behaviors, and fewer safe options for placement. In response, we’ve been working closely with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) for more than a year to build a stronger, more responsive model of care.

This summer, we began putting that plan into action. Our entire team is going through an intensive season of training to refresh and deepen their skills in trauma-informed care, de-escalation techniques, sensory integration, and mental health treatment. Clinical staff are also receiving advanced training to help them better support youth who are dealing with grief, trauma, and complex behavioral needs.

This level of training reflects our deep commitment to learning and growing to ensure that our youth receive the therapeutic support and care they need.

At the same time, we are investing in major building upgrades. The needs of youth today are not just emotional, they are physical and behavioral too. As our Clinical Director, Carolynn Metz, shared in the recent WXYZ story, "We have behaviors of self-harm, we have behaviors of physical aggression. Youth are coming in with a lot more trauma. They're going to use their fists sometimes before using their words."

These challenges can cause real damage to our living spaces. Since October 2024, Vista Maria has invested $494,000 in structural repairs across campus. That includes restoring walls, replacing windows, reinforcing infrastructure, and repairing bathrooms in our residential buildings. These repairs and improvements are not cosmetic-- they are necessary to maintain safety and create a calm environment for healing.

Trainings and building updates are not quick fixes. They are long-term investments in the future of residential mental health care. We are proud to be doing this work with heart, urgency, and strong partnerships with MDHHS, the City of Dearborn Heights, caring families, and training experts who share our commitment to youth and healing.

The challenges our youth face are real, but so is the strength of this community. Thank you for walking alongside us. With your support, we are continuing to build a safer, more hopeful future for every young person in our care.

With gratitude,

Kim Tyle, CFRE
