Vital Living News

November 2025

Vital Living supports an intergenerational community that values and respects everyone, increases understanding and engagement, and focuses on health and well-being for all generations.

In Remembrance of

David "Dave" Anderson

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of a beloved volunteer's passing. Dave Anderson had been a volunteer with our program since 2021. He started by delivering supplies to caregivers, older adults experiencing memory loss, and other volunteers. He then helped to rebuild our in-person NE Day Spot program after the pandemic and was an integral part of the NE Day Spot community that we've built here at East Side. We will deeply miss his dedication to the program, his endearing personality, his friendly demeanor, and his amazing stories that kept our spirits warm.

Here are some memories about Dave and his impact by those in our community:

"Dave and I crossed paths Spring of 2022 at East Side as volunteers. Him growing up in St. Paul, and me on a farm in Southern Minnesota, brought much contrast that led to humor and laughter. He was a very humble person, never boasting about all the knowledge he obtained while working in bookstores. His politeness and manners were like a shining star, never forgetting to say thank you for the tiniest gestures. What really stood out about Dave was his positive attitude and utmost respect for women."-Priscilla

"Dave and I first met as volunteers at East Side in 2022. We became fast friends due to our love of baseball and stories. We first bonded when I told him about taking the street cars to Nicollet ballpark. He loved to hear the stories of ushering the games and getting the visiting team hotdogs. Dave and I continued to share stories until the very end. His passion for both baseball and storytelling is seen through the many books he has written; no baseball topic was left undiscussed. Dave inherited his parents' bookstore in Stillwater, making him very well-read and knowledgeable in just about every subject, including music. Some of the fondest memories we shared were when music was played at the NE Day Spot program. There was not a song that Dave did not know the lyrics to. While we had similar interests, we rooted for different baseball teams. I rooted for the hometown team, while Dave loved the Yankees. Dave was incredibly optimistic, while I was pessimistic about the future of the Twins. He often told me, "It will all work out." Despite all of the challenges he faced, he never failed to keep his spirits high. He was a man of integrity and honesty. His love for coffee, baseball, and stories will live on through his memory."-Don

Sincerely,

The Vital Living Team

Vital Living Caregiving

Family Caregivers Month

November is National Family Caregivers Month, a time to recognize and honor the millions of individuals who care for loved ones living with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, and other related conditions.

Being a caregiver can take many forms. Sometimes it’s easy to see, and other times it’s less obvious. You might be a caregiver if you bring groceries to a neighbor, help a parent manage bills and appointments, stop by to check in a few times a week, or provide daily, around-the-clock care for someone living with you.

Many people don’t think of themselves as caregivers-they simply see themselves as family, friends, or neighbors helping someone they care about. Yet every act of support, big or small, plays a vital role in the well-being of someone living with memory loss.

Vital Living is here to walk beside caregivers. We offer consultation, education, support gatherings, and respite care to help lighten the load.

This month, we celebrate your compassion, your strength, and your dedication, recognizing you're not on an easy journey. You are not alone, and your care makes a lasting difference every single day.
