Looking Back with Gratitude as We Boldly Step into the New Year

Foundation Friends,

As we enter 2024 and have a new opportunity to embrace and support our community, we are excited to share this special New Year's edition of our Vital Signs E-newsletter with you - featuring a look back at some moments from the past year.

In this edition, you will enjoy a story from a board member about an experience that left her family feeling grateful, a donor who hit the ground running and paved the way for so many women, and an update on the newly opened cardiac catheterization lab at UNC Health Pardee.

Further, you will read about our upcoming Casino Night for Cardiology event, now in its

second year, and about the addition of a new 50/50 Cash Raffle. We are all in for Casino Night

for Cardiology and hope you’ll consider supporting it too.

We are also excited to join Business North Carolina Magazine in recognizing the excellence of the UNC Health Pardee providers named as part of their 2023 Top Doctors list.

Because UNC Health Pardee is a nonprofit hospital devoted to assessing the community’s

health and meeting those needs with excellence, your partnership is vital. What a privilege it is to work together to ensure the continued health of our friends, neighbors, and family members.

Thank you for your support in our ongoing commitment to provide the highest quality of care in our region.

Happy New Year!

Fondly,

Amy Treece

Executive Director

GRATEFUL PATIENTS: NICOLA BARKSDALE

Recently my mom had to be hospitalized outside of Henderson County after a severe drop in her oxygen levels due to flu and pneumonia. After she was discharged from the hospital, it was not long before her condition deteriorated again, but this time her regular primary care physician's office was closed for the

holidays. She decided to make a visit to the Pardee Urgent Care in Brevard, and immediately, they provided her with medication and resources to get her oxygen levels to a normal level. Pardee Urgent Care provided timely and compassionate care to my family when we needed it most.

Nicola recalls receiving a text from her mom that Pardee Urgent Care called her to check in and make sure that she was still maintaining a normal oxygen level. “This is the care that is needed in Brevard! This is the care everyone, everywhere, deserves! I am so grateful that Pardee is expanding their services in Transylvania County!”

Gifts received from grateful patients make it possible for us to provide state-of-the-art technology and equipment. Your support allows our doctors, nurses, and staff to continue to provide the best care possible for patients across Western North Carolina.

Honoring Daphne Kirkwood

I have always admired the great work the Pardee Hospital Foundation does for our community and the impact their work has had on the lives of women in our area. As the owner of iDaph Events and a cancer survivor, I saw firsthand how essential it was to get involved and support their mission.

When we came together to create She Slays, we knew it would be an inspiring celebration event that would honor and support women undergoing cancer treatment.

Scheduled for April 20th, the She Slays 5K & One Mile is a fundraising event to honor women in Henderson County who are fighting the good fight against cancer. She Slays is going to be an emotional and empowering event that will uplift women in our community.

I'm grateful to Pardee Hospital Foundation for their dedication to this cause and for giving us at iDaph Events the opportunity to be involved. My inspiration comes from a combination of factors that motivate me to inspire others. First and foremost, I have been incredibly blessed to have had countless inspiring people in my life who have selflessly given their time, knowledge, and resources to support me and help others.

Witnessing their generosity has had a profound impact on my life and made me want to do the same for others. Simply put, giving inspires giving!

We want to give these strong women the support they need to keep pushing forward. With your participation, we can make a real difference in the lives of sisters in need.

Registration for She Slays opens on Feb. 13th. Visit idaph.net/she-slays to register!

With the Latest Heart Cath Lab Now Open, UNC Health Pardee Strengthens its Ability to Provide Life-changing Cardiac Care

With Heart disease the number one cause of death in the United States, we are excited to share that UNC Health Pardee’s newest cardiac catheterization lab is now open and operating.

This growth is another important step on our path to expanding cardiology care and services for residents in our region and reduces the need for potentially dangerous patient transport.

“Our cardiology program is providing the same quality of care right here in Hendersonville that you could at any large hospital in the country,” says UNC Health Pardee cardiologist Joe Moore, MD, FACC.“We are able to provide state-of-the-art heart attack treatment right here in town.”

Dr. Moore is quick to point out that support from friends like you is key to such growth. “We have a window of opportunity to really advance the level of cardiology care in our community and in our region of Western NC,” he says. “Members of the community have an opportunity to directly participate in growing the services we provide at Pardee, from which they will then directly benefit.”

You may recall that during the last fiscal year, more than 1,000 heart cath procedures took place at UNC Health Pardee, a number that has increased by 300 percent over the last six years. As one of only 86 hospitals in the country recognized for treatment of heart attack patients by the American College of Cardiology, UNCHealth Pardee is well-positioned to provide life changing care for these patients.
