November 2023

Foundation Friends,

November invites reflection, gratitude, and the warmth of shared moments, making it a cherished part of the fall season.

It's a time when we naturally turn our thoughts to gratitude. To that end, we are truly thankful for our community's generous support and the incredible success of the annual Women Helping Women Luncheon last month

The event brought together over 400 members of our community, all dedicated to the shared cause of providing supplementary support for women who require necessary medical treatment but cannot shoulder the costs. It was a testament to the power of unity and compassion.

We are also grateful for the warm and enthusiastic reception of our new Mammo on the Go Program and our first 'Mammogram Night.' This innovative mobile mammography unit offers the same state-of-the-art, digital 3D breast imaging available at the breast center. The successful launch of this new program bears witness to our community's caring and giving spirit.

Working alongside such a compassionate and generous community is an honor and a privilege, as your support and engagement allow us to continue our mission of enhancing the quality of healthcare in our area.

May you enjoy a blessed Thanksgiving season with friends and family, surrounded by love, laughter, and gratitude.

Fondly,

Amy Treece

Annual Women Helping Women Event Speaker Celebrated Courage, Honesty and Being There for Each Other

With wit, humor, and the kind of authenticity that comes from living through life's trials, Dr. Kate Bowler, New York Times bestselling author, podcast host, Duke University professor, and cancer survivor, was the keynote speaker at last month's Women Helping Women Luncheon.

As a key component of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Pardee Hospital Foundation once again turned pink for the month of October.

With unflinching honesty, Bowler shared how she grappled with her own cancer diagnosis, her ambition, and her faith as she tried to come to terms with her limitations in a culture that says anything is possible. Bowler reminded the audience that "perfection is impossible, but transformation isn't.

"We need each other if we're going to tell the truth," she said. "Life is beautiful and terrible, full of hope and despair and everything in between—and there’s no cure for being human."

Bowler praised and blessed the audience of 400+ attendees, telling them that are strong, courageous, caring, and compassionate in their commitment to the women who need them most.

Since 1997, Women Helping Women has evolved into a significant force for good within the community, beginning with a focus on recommended breast screenings and challenging the stigma attached to a breast cancer diagnosis.

Thanks to awareness raised through this annual gathering, women in our region now have a profoundly improved understanding that mammograms are a critical part of their health plans.

No Ordinary Chair:

Update on our Goal to Provide Pardee Cancer Center with Five State-of-the-Art Infusion Chairs

Thanks to donor support, we're happy to report that we're much closer to our goal of securing funding for five infusion chairs for use in administering chemotherapy.

The Foundation has received funding to purchase two chairs. The total cost for all five is $18,000

These chairs are vitally important, as lengthy infusion sessions necessitate that patients remain seated for extended durations, and as such, it is imperative for infusion centers to furnish their facilities with chairs that are meticulously designed, incorporating ergonomic attributes.

This mitigates discomfort, diminishes pressure points, and fosters optimal postural alignment for patients. These chairs also facilitate unhindered and timely access for nurses and physicians and strike a harmonious balance between patient comfort and clinical accessibility.

Please consider donating today to help bring these much-needed chairs to our patients at the Cancer Center!

Key Questions to Discuss with Your Cardiologist Surrounding Improving Heart Health

This month, we are shining the spotlight on Dr. Lillia LaPlace of Pardee Cardiology Associates.

Dr. LaPlace discusses important questions to ask your cardiologist to help lower your risk and meet your goals in this video about how small changes can lead to big improvements in your heart health.

Dr. LaPlace is passionate about being a cardiologist because it “allows me to practice in a field that is intellectually challenging while allowing me to develop long-term doctor-patient relationships.”

She added that cardiology encompasses many subspecialties and allows one to not only treat common cardiac conditions but also to pursue special interests. “The diversity within the field allows you to be involved throughout a patient's journey from prevention to acute life-threatening illnesses to stable chronic cardiac conditions, which fosters the doctor-patient bond.”
