Staff Picks : Vive La France!
Madison's Pick:
2016 Chateau La Negly - La Brise Marine - La Clape, Langeudoc-Roussillon
70% Bourboulenc, 20% Roussanne, 10% Marsanne
Prime example of a wine tasting of its place here - La Brise Marine is pure, refreshing saline minerality with a layer of tropical fruit and citrus coming from vineyards a stone's throw from the Mediterranean. It is rich and textured, bright and pleasantly aromatic. Unfortunately named appellation, brilliant wine from one of La Clape's better producers proving great things can happen in Languedoc-Roussillon. -$19.99
Patti's Pick:
2016 Domaine Etienne Daulny Sancerre
Sancerre is located at the very eastern edge of Loire Valley's main vineyard area and is well known for it's Sauvignon Blanc. Domaine Daulny is a classic expression of Sauvignon Blanc from this region. Different from the heavier hitting flavor profiles of Sauvignon Blanc produced in the New World, this Sancerre is alive with acidity, fresh grassy notes, underripe melon, grapefruit, and finishes with a slate-like mineral component. Enjoy this crisp white on it's own or with white fish dishes, oysters, or a cheese plate. -$24.99
Doug's Pick:
2014 Domaine de la Noblaie, Le Temps de Cerises
The wines of the Loire valley are fascinating. Moving from the Atlantic Ocean eastward, one passes through a daunting number of regions which produce a staggering number of wine styles. I’d argue that out of all the sub-regions of this vast area, the AOC of Chinon is one of the most celebrated and for good reason. Chinons, produced from the Cabernet Franc grape, are on the lighter side of the red wine spectrum and are incredibly food friendly, especially with the lighter fare of summer. They taste of bright, crunchy red fruit with a nice herbecious aromatic lift that adds to their allure. This particular cuvee from Domaine de La Noblaie expresses these traits wonderfully and could easily pair with anything off the grill.  -$16.99
Dave's Pick:
2014 Seigneurs d'Aiguilhe, Cotes de Castillon
Like most of the staff here, you don't have to twist my arm to write about French wine. With Bastille day coming up and France advancing into the World Cup finals it seems like a good time to cover some of the basics. Even though Bordeaux is perhaps the most recognizable of French wine regions it seems to get overlooked in our market. The  Seigneurs d'Aiguilhe is an excellent second label from the Comptes von Neipperg family of chateau. The wine has just enough silky plum liqueur flavor from Merlot grapes grown in ideal conditions. Paired with equally high quality Cabernet Franc, it is rich, juicy and satisfying. Pair with heavier meat dishes to add some sophistication to your dinner table. -$26.99
