Our Mission

Ignatians West transforms lives by supporting nonprofit agencies that assist people who are poor or marginalized through the service and companionship of mature adults 50+ who are available to share their experience and talent in meaningful part time volunteer positions and reflect on their encounters in the Ignatian tradition.

Dear friends,

Today, on Vocation Sunday, we offer information on the work of Discerning Deacons and an invitation to our June retreat day.

Each of us has chosen a path, a vocation, that hopefully leads us to fulfilment and the peace of God. Sometimes our paths veer in directions not imagined. Our lives change, our deepest desires emerge and are recognized when least expected or after years of discernment we finally gvie in to something we have wanted all along.

Imagine with us what the Holy Spirit might have in store for some among us in the future.

What would it mean if a woman was the preacher at your Sunday liturgy? What if a woman baptized your son or daughter, grandson or granddaughter or presided at your family wedding? What if your daughter or wife felt called to the diaconate? We rely on and celebrate the service of the deacons in our diocese. What would it mean if we restored women to the diaconate to serve along side them?

On Monday, April 29, at 4:00pm EST all are invited to Discerning Diakonia, a focused synodal encounter about the renewal of the permanent diaconate for the Church’s social mission and the possibility of ordaining women as deacons.

This event, which will include a listening presence from voting Synod delegates and a facilitated synodal experience of Conversations in the Spirit, features special guests including Deacon Geert de Cubber, the Synod’s only Roman Catholic permanent deacon, and esteemed scholar on the diaconate Deacon William Ditewig.

We will gather virtually to hear from ministry leaders from the United States and Canada whose stories, experiences and examples give us living witness for what is needed and what could be possible for our Church in this third millennium. Live, professional interpretation from English to Spanish provided.
