This is another one of my most favorite musicals, based on a play that also inspired several famous films, including "You've Got Mail" with Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks.

Musical of the Week
She Loves Me is a musical by Sheldon Harnick and Jerry Bock, who also wrote Fiddler on the Roof (this show is nothing like Fiddler, though!)
She Loves Me is based on the 1937 play
Parfumerie by Hungarian playwright Miklós László. Other adaptations of the play were the 1940 film
The Shop Around the Corner starring Jimmy Stewart, and the 1949 musical version
In the Good Old Summertime starring Judy Garland. The third film version was 1998's
You've Got Mail, starring Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks.
The plot revolves around Budapest shop employees Georg Nowack and Amalia Balash who, despite being consistently at odds with each other at work, are unaware that each is the other's secret pen pal met through lonely-hearts ads.
The musical premiered on Broadway in 1963 and was revived again on Broadway in 2016, becoming the first Broadway show ever to be live-streamed.
Jaw tension is common for many people, and especially so for singers. We need to take extra care of our
temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and be aware of any pain that may result from tension.
The TMJ connects the lower jaw, called the mandible, to the temporal bone at the side of the head. If you place your fingers just in front of your ears and open your mouth you will feel the joints. These joints are flexible, allowing the jaw to move smoothly up and down and side to side for speech, singing, chewing, and yawning.
This week we turn to Mexico for everyone's favorite Cielito Lindo. If you think you don't know it, you probably do!
Commonly played by mariachi bands, it has been recorded by many artists in the original Spanish as well as in English and other languages. It has become a famous song of Mexico, especially in Mexican expatriate communities around the world and for Mexicans attending international events such as the Olympic Games or the FIFA World Cup.
Have fun sight-reading these folk tunes! Do you recognize them?
