Ask a Girl Scout

Meet Lucille! At just nine years old, Lucille is already a Cookie Program pro. After all, she’s been doing it since she was a Daisy. She sets big goals and shows up to her cookie booths, rain or shine. Let’s learn more about this Cookie Champ who sold 1,003 packages this year and is headed to the All‑Star Ceremony at the House of Blues! Girls like Lucille aren't just selling cookies. They're building confidence, learning real-world skills, and discovering what they're capable of.

Q: What’s your favorite thing about selling cookies?

A: We can have so much fun, and we get rewards! Last year, I got a mini-fridge, a stuffed animal, a panda snuggie, and some pajamas, and I went to Dave and Buster’s and Wild Rivers.

Q: Do you learn things from selling cookies?

A: Selling cookies helps me to be more confident. It also helps me do math, like if someone wants five packages, I do five times six to get thirty. I also do math when I give change and count money.

Q: What will you use your cookie money for this year?

A: I am going to Camp Scherman for a whole week! Last year, I went for a weekend and had so much fun. At Camp Scherman, you can learn to cook, play games, do archery, learn how to make knots, go stargazing, canoe in the lake, and swim in the pool.

Q: Why do you like Girl Scouts?

A: I like to be in Girl Scouts because it gives me an opportunity to not be shy and to let my heart out, and have adventures and be brave!

Donor Spotlight

As longtime champions of Girl Scouts, Mohamed and Gulie Hamir are proud to introduce the GSOC Hamir Family Scholarship, expanding opportunities for girls across Orange County.

Rooted in the belief that nothing should stand in the way of a girl’s dreams, the Hamir Family will award ten need-based scholarships of $5,000 each to Girl Scouts in the Class of 2026, helping remove barriers for girls in underserved communities.

“I know what it’s like to lack resources—and how transformative the right opportunity can be,” says Mohamed. “We hope these scholarships help girls broaden their horizons and grow into strong leaders.”

Their commitment is also deeply personal. Their adopted granddaughter, Zaleeya, gained confidence and leadership through Girl Scouts, selling over 2,500 boxes in the Cookie Program. Now a Gold Award recipient, she plans to attend college and pursue entrepreneurship.

The Hamirs are members of the Juliette Gordon Low Society and founding members of GSOC’s Promise Circle. Their daughter, Zeena Dhalla, has served as a troop leader, service unit coordinator, volunteer trainer, and Honor Pin recipient. In contrast, her husband, Azeem Dhalla, serves on the GSOC Board of Directors.

Applications for the GSOC Hamir Family Scholarship are being accepted until May 1, 2026. Learn more and apply here.

Making History for Women's History Month

National Girl Scout Day on March 12, 2026, marked 114 years since the founding of Girl Scouts. The day also marked the launch of a new tradition for Girl Scouts of Orange County. EmpowerHER: A Celebration of Women Leaders made history as the first National Girl Scout Day Luncheon in Orange County.

Here are a few moments we're still talking about:

💚 The Orange County premiere of Defining Moments, a documentary honoring Frances Hesselbein, the first National CEO of Girl Scouts.

💚 The surprise presentation of the inaugural EmpowerHER Award to Honorary Event Chair Nella Webster O'Grady, recognizing her decades of leadership and impact in our community.

💚 The reveal of our new PowHerful PSA campaign celebrating the Girl Scouts of Orange County.

💚 A room full of changemakers who believe, as we do, that leadership begins with a girl.

EmpowerHER was made possible by Event Chairs Christine Scheuneman, Angela Dailey, and Maggie O'Sullivan, Film Sponsor Integris, Lunch Sponsor Andrei's Conscious Cuisine & Cocktails, Program Sponsors Jeff and Caron Winston, and Girl Experience Underwriter Argyros Family Foundation.

Events like EmpowerHER remind us that when we invest in girls, we invest in the future of our communities.

Keep championing the girl leaders of today and tomorrow! Save the date:
