More Bills Signed Into Law  
Gov. Reynolds is continuing to review and sign legislation into law following the adjournment of the 2019 legislative session. The governor has already put her signature on numerous bills approved by the legislature, and this week she approved two bills that ABI had been following closely during the session. ABI Amicus Supported Recent Positive Supreme Court Ruling
Last summer, ABI submitted an amicus brief to the Supreme Court in Clark v. Insurance Company of the State of Pennsylvania. The case dealt with the constitutionality of Iowa Code Chapter 517.5 as it relates to immunity of liability in workplace inspections and how that correlates with workers’ compensation. Read more .

ABI Environment Committee to Meet on May 30
The ABI Environment Committee will meet on Thursday, May 30 in Des Moines. The meeting will include several updates on regulatory issues ABI is working on on behalf of members in the water quality and air quality areas. In addition, there will be a legislative update regarding air construction permit fees and information regarding recent discussions with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. DNR Accepting Comment on Proposed Rules and Reports
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) sent out several notices to stakeholders this week regarding proposed rules and reports. One report relates to the sulfur dioxide (SO2) data requirements rule. According to the DNR, the rule requires an annual assessment of recent SO2 emissions in any area where air quality modeling of actual emissions provided the basis for designating the area attainment for the 2010 one-hour SO2 national ambient air quality standard (NAAQS).
