Dear friends,

Confreres around the Province celebrated St. Vincent’s Feast Day in many ways. In Germantown, the feast was celebrated with Masses in the Basilica Shrine and in the Community Chapel at St. Vincent’s Seminary on Saturday, and at St. Vincent de Paul Parish on Sunday.

Niagara and St. John’s universities honored the legacy of St. Vincent de Paul with activities throughout last week. Fr. Emmet Nolan, CM, was awarded a doctorate of pedagogy, Honoris Causa, by Niagara University and gave the keynote address at the Vincentian Heritage Convocation. In Queens, Bishop David O’Connell, CM, opened Founder’s Week at St. John’s University by delivering the Vincentian Heritage Lecture on September 22. Here is a link to a YouTube video of his address.

Vocation Video

The Vocation Office of the Province has shared a series of vocation videos featuring a peek into one day in the life of our seminarians. Last week, we shared the first video, A Day in the LIFE of a Vincentian Seminarian, which is an overview of all the videos.

Today’s video is This Is How We Do COMMUNITY. If you post it online, you can add this description: “In this inspiring glimpse into seminary life, we witness the deep joy of living in community. Here, brotherhood is real, not just a word. There’s no competition, only genuine support from fellow seminarians, the vocation director, and the wider Vincentian family. We're all walking together toward a shared calling.”

Stay tuned for more videos in future messages.

May God bless you in the week ahead, and may Our Lady wrap you in her love and grace, drawing you closer to her Son.

Yours in St. Vincent,

Fr. Steve Grozio, CM

Vincentian insights from the Province

Fr. John Freund, CM

"I have often heard the phrase 'a prophet without honor in his own country.' After some 60 years of formal association with the followers of Vincent I must admit to a variation. It is not so much that I did not honor Vincent. It is more that I did not realize until recently the depth of his impact on the church of today."

Fr. Pat Griffin, CM

"Genuine service is done without celebration or spotlight. One carries it out humbly for the good of the community and the other. Jesus’ washing the feet of the disciples captures that truth. He puts himself in the role of servant and invites his disciples to follow his example."
