Dear friends,

The Vincentian community was honored by Niagara University at its annual President’s Dinner last Wednesday evening. As part of the continuing celebration of the 400th Anniversary of the foundation of the Congregation and in recognition of the dedicated and impactful service of the Vincentians at Niagara since its beginnings in 1856, Fr. James J. Maher, CM, the 26th president of Niagara University, presented us with the Ozanam Medal, one of the highest honors the university can bestow. As Provincial, I accepted the award on behalf of the Province. My remarks, which you can read here, linked the foundation of the Congregation to the present day Vincentian and Catholic mission being lived out at NU.

Fr. Maher also presented the Vincentians with a Certificate of Recognition from New York Governor Kathy Hochul and a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition from Timothy M. Kennedy, the US congressman representing New York's 26th District, which includes Buffalo and Niagara Falls.

It was nice to see that many confreres who had worked at the university attended the event and were able to connect with old friends and colleagues and to feel the appreciation for all they have done and continue to do. Click here to see the Ozanam Medal.

The other honoree that night was Mr. Scott Bieler, president and CEO of West Herr Automotive Group and The Scott Bieler Family Foundation. Fr. Maher presented him with the St. Vincent de Paul Award in recognition of his philanthropy in the Western New York area and especially for the generous gift he and his wife, Kathy, gave to the university, enabling it to open the Bieler Institute of Business Ethics which has transformed the first floor of the university’s Bisgrove Hall into a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to advancing ethical leadership and innovation.

HOOPS OF STEEL: Vincent De Paul’s Closest Friendships by Fr. Robert Maloney, CM

HOOPS OF STEEL has been published on Amazon. This work explores how the friendships of St. Vincent de Paul deeply influenced his life, mission, and commitment to charity. Beyond their collaborations, the book highlights friendship itself: how St. Vincent cultivated lasting bonds that brought him joy, strength, and personal growth. The book combines historical rigor with clarity and narrative warmth, offering a fresh perspective on community, leadership, and holiness in action—and reminding us that great achievements are never reached alone. On the responsibility of the United States’ government

A statement by the Vincentians of the Eastern Province

Following thoughtful reflection, lived experiences, and prayerful conviction, the Vincentians of the Eastern Province, USA, released a statement “On the responsibility of the United States’ government at this hour.”

St. Vincent de Paul guides the Congregation of the Mission to serve the marginalized and create a more just world. The United States has been a beacon of refuge, justice, and opportunity. Our statement is a spiritual call for the country our Province calls home to embrace the ideals as the Gospel compels us.

Vincentian insights from the Province

Fr. John Freund, CM

"Apparently, advocacy is not a word commonly used in other languages. Thus, native English-speakers are horrified when they see advocacy translated in other languages as 'political charity.'"

Fr. Tom McKenna, CM

"When we act (minister) in Jesus’ name, there’s more at work in that scene than our own selves. There’s God’s own Self coming through what it is we do and say. There’s the echo of God’s voice sounding ever so deeply within our own voices."

Save the Date: GivingTuesday

The Central Association of the Miraculous Medal (CAMM) has a simple mission: to bring people closer to Jesus through Mary and her message of the Miraculous Medal. The Miraculous Medal is unique among all medals. It is the only medal designed by Our Lady, and it bestows extraordinary graces on those who wear it and pray for Mary’s intercession and help.

GivingTuesday, which takes place on December 2, is an opportunity for you to support CAMM's mission. We will also share testimonies to the power of prayer and Mary's intercession that day.

If you would like to share your story of a blessing received, we encourage you to do so. It may be used on GivingTuesday to show others the many graces Mary bestows. If you would like to donate now to this year's GivingTuesday campaign, we are accepting early donations.

May Our Blessed Mother's loving embrace fill your heart with peace and guide you nearer to Jesus.

The Vincentian Priests and Brothers of the Eastern Province serve those on the margins in areas often forgotten by the world.

We want to hear from you!

How can our newsletter better serve you? Send a message and share your thoughts and suggestions for engaging stories or Vincentian topics you would like to read or learn more about.
