As we begin this season of Advent, Superior General Fr. Tomaž Mavrič, CM, invites us to reflect upon St. Vincent de Paul, the Mystic of Charity. Remembering that “Jesus is mystically seen in the poor,” we are called to be mystics with open eyes. It is a mysticism that seeks the face, which leads first and foremost to an encounter with others who suffer, to an encounter with the faces of the unfortunate and the victims. It is a mysticism in the sense of a spiritual experience of solidarity: a mysticism, which recognizes the dignity of all persons. It is a faith that seeks justice.
Last Wednesday, we celebrated the Solemnity of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal at the Basilica Shrine in Philadelphia. Bishop Efren V. Esmilla, auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, presided and preached. A number of Vincentians concelebrated, but the most special moment was the recognition of all our seminarians. They are an impressive group. To view an article on the Central Association of the Miraculous Medal (CAMM) website, click here.
13 Houses video from Rome
As the concelebrants and the laity gathered for the Eucharist in St. Peter’s Basilica on the World Day of the Poor, Pope Leo XIV was meeting with recipients of some of the homes built by the 13 Houses Project. Of special interest is the home he blessed in the Diocese of Chiclayo, Peru, where he was the bishop. Click here to view a video.
