Young visitors during our OHNY TankerTours

With joy and with pride, I share 2017 PortSide news and what it means for the diverse people we serve.

I and PortSide's inventive, dedicated team have fought for years for a home to help the under-served peninsula of Red Hook and to create the first facility in NYC offering authentic maritime experiences, maritime services, culture, and education for people of all ages and economic levels, and boats, boats, boats.  We're doing it!

Please support PortSide NewYork with a year-end   donation !

Hear some voices sharing their PortSide experiences from 2017.

"Working here at PortSide NY with Peter and Carolina on the MARY WHALEN boat was a wonderful experience I'll never forget."  That's what our intern Gloriveht Ortiz wrote in the blogpost about her summer.  We opened up a world for her. She had never been on a boat before, and after we got her on many, she now wants to get on every kind of boat she sees.

"I am so excited" said indie rock musician Billy McCarthy about using our Captain's cabin as a space to compose and rehearse his next album. He's up there now.

"Love the testimony attachment. Excellent." Wrote Rik van Hemmen, President of Martin Ottoway about our recent City Council testimony about "investing in NYC's maritime workforce."

Speaking about the mix of peoples at a Second Sunday TankerTime, Yugoslav immigrant Pedrag said "I am so glad I found this. It is hard to find my people, and they are all here. Except Slovenians. Do you have any Slovenians? "

PortSide creates truly special WaterStories experiences.

PortSide also shares our deep experience via advocacy  that opens up the harbor for other non-profits, businesses and people working to make a better, more active and relevant waterfront for all.
