Message from the Minister

Dear Spiritual Community,

Spring is indeed in the air...finally! I must admit that I'm not yet accustomed to the climate in the Upper Midwest, but I'm quickly becoming more expert in its varied expressions. I've developed a heartfelt appreciation for those days that are sunny and warm, and also have a visceral understanding of what "cabin fever" is all about. When I tell my West Coast and Hawaii friends that we had over eight feet of snow this year they have difficulty comprehending it. But, natives have told me not to judge the weather here by this past winter. I've thanked our snow blower many times for its wonderful service to us, and have told it that this next winter will be like the Bahamas. Okay, I lied. Maybe like Des Moines.

Weather is something we can do very little about. We surrender to each day, however it unfolds, and adjust our expectations to what is possible for us to do. Spiritual flexibility is an important skill. Being able to intuitively see how we need to show up in life is a constant practice, much like having a backup plan in case of rain. There's no sense in our getting wet when we don't have to.

Given the window of pleasant weather that summer usually brings I can imagine that many of us will be getting out and about whether it's locally or globally. 'Tis the season for vacations. Typically, attendance at church services goes down in the summer. That's understandable. Donna and I will be gone three Sundays this summer ourselves. In June we will be attending the Unity People's Convention in Overland Park, Kansas (Kansas City area). We have scheduled the well-known local musician and speaker, Yata, to speak/sing on June 23. In July, our own Helen Wright will be the speaker on July 21, and musician, Julie Rust, will return on July 28. Be sure to check out all three of these wonderful presenters if you're in town those Sundays.

If there's anything our ministry can do to make your summer more enjoyable please let us know. We're here to support your joy, your bliss, your success! Let us hold you in prayer as you're on the road traveling about. And, please know that wherever you are you are always in the presence of the Infinite Spirit of God.

With richest blessings,

Alden
