New Opioid Overdose Program Aims to
Remove Barriers to Patient Recovery
"This program is the vital next step to ensure these individuals can access services to help maintain long-term recovery."

Mike Santillo, Director of Integrated Care Services at Eva's Village
Recovery Specialists from Eva's Village are now on call and on-site in the Emergency Room at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in Paterson, to engage patients who have been reversed from an opioid overdose. Eva's Recovery Specialists, who are themselves in recovery from addiction, will provide peer- to-peer advice, counseling and guidance to help patients and families connect with treatment and recovery services in the communities where they live, with follow-up for 12 weeks after a reversal.

"The use of Narcan to reverse opioid overdoses has saved the lives of hundreds of people in New Jersey. Unfortunately, many individuals leave the hospital without being connected to the appropriate treatment and recovery support services," said Mike Santillo, Director of Integrated Care Services at Eva's Village.

Extending Clinics' Hours Doubles Capacity

Martha Sequera greets patients from Eva's Village and the community who come to our Medical Clinic for primary care. The Clinic also provides dental and podiatry care for Eva's Village residential clients.
"Despite Obamacare, many in our community still lack access to resources and insurance; especially the homeless. There is always going to be
a need."

Eva's Village Clinic Administrator
Janiene Diaz-Fasano
The Primary Care Medical Clinic at Eva's Village provides care not only to Eva's clients, but to local residents who are uninsured or underinsured - and it is one of the few free clinics in the Paterson community to offer this service to the public. In the same building on Jackson Street, the Dental Clinic offers primary and restorative dental care to clients in Eva's Village programs.

In the past three years, patient visits to the clinics have increased by 86%
; last year, our clinics accommodated 5,320 patient visits. Our goal is to continue to seek the resources to increase our hours, in order to serve the growing patient population.

Generous Helpings of Fried Chicken
with a Side of Fellowship

For more than 30 years, The Men's Group from the Church of the Most Blessed Sacrament has prepared and served a meal each month to guests at Eva's Community Kitchen.
The menu is as consistent as the group's commitment to giving back: once a month for more than 30 years, the Men's Group from the Church of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Franklin Lakes prepares a hearty meal of fried chicken, collard greens and rice for guests at Eva's Community Kitchen. "We haven't missed a month yet," Hank noted with pride. At 88, he is the senior member of the group. Additional volunteers from the church serve the food and clean up.
