Thank You to Our Community Partners

The Holly Springs Food Cupboard is profoundly grateful for all of our community partners, from storefronts and businesses around town that serve as drop-off locations for food donations to grocery stores and restaurants that donate unused food. Shown below are certificates of appreciation recently dropped off to share our thankfulness with the many people and businesses around our community that help make our service possible.

Around the Cupboard in February

For Sunrise United Methodist Church, it's "The Year of the Peanut!" The church is committing the year to help stock Cupboard shelves with this important staple! At its first fellowship dinner and chili cook-off, 225 jars of peanut butter and funding were collected and donated to the Cupboard. Thank you!

Does your company or club want to be a true #hungerhero for our community? Consider committing the rest of the year to help keep a shelf stocked by pledging to focus on one staple item. Let us know if you'd like to help by emailing marketing@foodcupboard.org!

Lots of happy birthday wishes to Addison! This sweet young lady collected food donations at her birthday party and we are here to celebrate her!

We are so thankful for scout Benjamin H for completing a service project in his neighborhood and collecting donations for the Cupboard! Cheerio to you Benjamin!

We are SUPER thankful today for Craig and the F3 South Wake donation from their Super Bowl Party. Thank you for thinking of us!

Many thanks to the good folks who hosted the Holly Springs Half Marathon for supporting the Cupboard this year!

Cupboard clients were in for a treat last month thanks to the South Wake Conservationist Deer Donation program. Click here to learn more about their amazing work in the community!

Thank you, Drew Shaffer and Carter Bryan! These two Holly Springs High School students for putting together an amazing food drive for the Cupboard!

Garden Volunteer Opportunities

Enjoy helping others and working outdoors? Consider volunteering in the Holly Springs Food Cupboard garden Saturday mornings!

If the weather cooperates and it’s not too wet, weekly Saturday gardening volunteers begin work at about 9 a.m. We work for 1-2 hours. You can sign up on your first visit. We have tasks for all ages, and on selected Saturdays we have special activities for the younger children.

Your volunteer time is such a great help to us in providing fresh, nutritious vegetables and fruits to our clients.

Our garden complex includes fruits and vegetables, honeybees, mushrooms, apple & fig trees, grapes, blueberries, chickens, hydroponic systems and more. And in our small space we grow about 2,800 lbs of produce each year! So much to see and learn!

Join us for a fun time and help those in need in the greater Holly Springs area. Please join us when you can.

Saturday Children's Acitvies for Cupboard Volunteers

Need a little help with your little helpers while you’re volunteering at the garden? The Holly Springs Food Cupboard is hosting a Saturday series of garden-related projects to keep little fingers busy and safely occupied while you finish up your volunteer work. Activities will be geared for K-3rd graders, but all ages are welcome.

Activities begin at 10:30 a.m. on the following dates:

  • March 11: Painting terracotta pots
  • April 1: Exploring tree rings
  • May 6: Plant sunflowers
  • June 24: Mini garden
  • July 22: Bird seed cones
  • Aug. 26: Tool tote

Once again, students from the Apex High School Humanitarian Club worked in our garden for a second (cold) week where they planted sugar snap peas, weeded beds, and added compost to the rows. These sugar snap seeds should germinate in about 7 days and will do well in cool temperatures (they die off in May).

That's right! Those vegetables you love to eat in the summer start as little tiny seeds in flats. We grow them in greenhouses, keep them watered and warm, and then will have volunteers transplant them to our garden in April.

Volunteering in our garden? We've got you covered. Check out the bug spray and first aid kit supplies in our shed, thanks to Lynn C's newly installed shelf!

One of our client’s sons works at Ace Hardware and found out his company was going to be disposing of a bunch of seed packets from last year. So instead of being tossed, they were donated because of this amazing young man and his appreciation for what we do. These are some of our garden volunteers sorting out the fantastic packets!

Did you know? The vegetables harvested from the Cupboard's garden actually begin as small seeds nurtured in a Campbell Road Nursery greenhouse by dedicated volunteers. When ready, the young plants are transferred to the Cupboard garden!

Thank you to Bryan H for making these 2 “dibbles” for our garden. These tools are used to punch in neatly spaced holes into the soil for planting seeds.

We are loving this extended sidewalk, courtesy of the Resurrection Life Mens group. Less mud = Happy volunteers!

Even our garden mailbox looks fresh after being painted by Heather. Thank you!
