Dear CRC,
I'm a glass (mostly) half-full kinda gal. I don’t pretend the glass is full, but I consider myself a realist—with a side of optimism. That’s why I love my job here at CRC.
People are hungry? We open the doors to our food pantry to provide supplemental food assistance.
People are hurting? We offer dignified, compassionate care.
People are unhoused or at risk of losing their homes? We walk alongside them, providing resources and support through difficult journeys.
I have the privilege of working for an organization that leans into the challenges the world throws at us. The staff and volunteers here have big hearts and they work hard. They roll up their sleeves and ask, “What can we do?” Instead of focusing solely on the problems, we seek solutions. It’s not always easy or simple, but that doesn’t stop us from trying.
This Volunteer Appreciation Month, I am especially grateful for the volunteers who lean in—who lift others up when they need a hand. I’m thankful for the volunteer teams who ensure the work gets done and who remind our staff, in the often complex and emotionally challenging world of social services, that we’re not alone.
For all the ways statistics tell the story, and all the ways they cannot—from the bottom of my heart—thank you.
