The Gathering Place Victory Garden
is planting the seed for victory over mental illness! These volunteers are peer mentors that help to further another's recovery by the sharing of life experience. This could include having a telephone conversation, getting together for a cup of coffee, meeting at the Gathering Place, or working with someone side-by-side on a project, such as gardening.
Therapeutic activities, such as vegetable gardening, can make a significant difference in a person's self-image. Members of The Gathering Place can begin to see themselves as valuable as they take part in this exciting project. Accomplishments lead to confidence and empowerment. Mentors work side by side with members teaching them about the various plants, how to take care of them and how to know when they are ready for picking. The mentors also work with members on how to cut up and prepare the vegetables for eating.
Thank you, Victory Garden volunteers, for your commitment and for making a difference in our community!
