Volunteer of the Week

Yessenia Carlos is our volunteer of the week as well as our
WPS Volunteer Award Youth Runner Up!
Yessenia was nominated as the Lieutenant of the Green Bay Police Explorers post where she responsibly presides over all meetings and oral boards in the absence of the Explorer Captain. She has completed a total of 608 volunteer hours throughout her time with the Police Explorer post to date. Some of her volunteer hours include putting in 12+ hours a day for both Country and Rock USA events in Oshkosh. The money she helps raise at these events goes towards educational trips for the Police Explorers.
Yessenia displays great leadership skill, easily bonds with the children, and works well with the other officers who are volunteering. When Yessenia joined the Police Explorer post, there were only 12 members that initially joined, but she immediately showed leadership skills and assisted with growing the post to 48 members. If it were not for her dedication and drive to volunteer, the post would never have been able to raise money for that many members and would not be able to afford educational trips and competitions.
She has been extremely helpful in guiding new Explorer members and make sure they understand the program goals.
She continues to learn more about law enforcement and helps other volunteers understand the materials and information shared in this program.
Beyond the Police Explorers, Yessenia takes time on her own to volunteer at numerous other facilities such as our local domestic violence shelter. There she works with young children that have gone through recent trauma. She works with them to ensure a safe and fun environment. Yessenia has personally affected many lives in the community and she gives up her own time to help others at church, various community events, police department and Police Explorer events as well as the domestic violence center. Though she may not pursue a career in law enforcement, she will always support the Police Explorer program.
Without Yessenia, the Police Explorer program would not be the success it is today.
Thank you Yessenia for seeing the need for this program in Green Bay and for all you have done to make it happen!
